What did people think of the message of MGR compared to the other Metal Gear games? I felt it was very faithful and felt like it fit perfectly with the time it was released.

Raiden would never justify using Child Soldiers. Armstrong was a more selfish Solidus and despite the fact that Raiden killed Solidus he respected him and called him the last true Patriot. Honestly playing DMC 4 and MGR has rekindled my love for vidya, I'd had given up and moved onto board games because of how shite modern vidya is. I know he was just lying to himself, but his fake reason for fighting was a perfectly legitmate reason, Sams "you kill so your just as bad as us" is just a childish argument, and any real soldier knows it. Being a soldier Raiden should know that he'd have to kill people who are just doing their job but that doesn't making him just as bad as the terrorists who kill for fun, want to star a war, and scoop children's brains out. Plus, if the enemy soldiers have emotion-inhibiting nanomachines in their bodies then that just means that they can't be reasoned with, so there's no other course of action then to fight them.

The smaller weapon and gun selection, limited weapon switching, and lack of styles made DMC1 feel archaic coming off the games after it. It's still good when in the mindset that it's a hybrid between classic Resident Evil and the later action games though. I sort of miss it and Ninja Gaiden's metroidvania-esque level design

Haven't played this game yet. Just finished MGS1 on my vita and it was pretty good was thoroughly excited for 2. No, tough it out. Solid Snake is still awesome, there are many great scenes and codec chats with him. Seeing Solid Snake from this separate perspective added a lot to him, for instance he doesn't occupy the role of duped pawn since he no longer has to mirror the player's reactions to big twists. He's savvy this time around.
Overall, taking in the whole franchise, Raiden is a shitty character (thanks to Kojima) but not in MGS2. I hated him on release day, but now I don't and I enjoy his part in Sons of Liberty.
