f27e53 No.14671813

-and no the level up screen for FFXV doesn't count. Neither does what the kids do in the cawadoody.

Lately i've been reading the manga Yuru Camp which is basically propaganda for INNAWOODS camping. It made me think how theres so many games with cooking mechanics for buffs or hunting for materials but the closest to camping is monster hunter where you have a camp, eat between hunts and change out weapons and items. But still it isn't enough.

I remember back in the Alpha for World of Warcraft long before current underage were even born they planned for a system where nighttimes were so dark you could barely see without a light source and you needed torches in your off hand, these would be made by a 'survival' proffession that was focussed on camping. You set up an advanced camp -hence why the in game campfire was always called 'basic campfire' - and crafting things like tents and sleeping rolls you would get buffs for the nights gaming adventures or just a nice place for people to chill and hang out in the unforgiving darkness of late night in the woods.

It just seems odd we have farming sims, surgeon sims, fishing rpgs, farming rpgs and all manner of generic crafting systems but nothing thats about hiking and camping.

>yuru camp

>innawoods

They go to state parks with running water and restrooms. That is far from innawoods. Anyway Breath of the Wild did have a sort of camping aesthetic to it when lighting fires. Shame they didn't add anything to it rather than skip to morning.

c44ad3 No.14671939

Red Dead Redemption had a thing where you camped to fast travel to places. It's a pretty shallow mechanic, though you do have to be far enough off the roads to actually set up camp which is kinda neat.

Kek. But it also makes me wonder the proper method. I've always assumed you just clear an area, dig a shallow hole, ring it with rock or dirt, then put it out when you're done. I may be going actual innawoods camping soon so I should probably learn this.

You are looking for The Forest. You literally crash on an island and you build your camp and shelters and shit from chopping down trees and collecting shit. Sure its survival but honestly the amount of shit they have added since the game launched is really impressive. And if you decide to "beat" the game it basically turns into The Descent when you explore caves.

Search for forests with lots of Birches or Beeches. Basically, northern Europe. Nothing comfier than a forest full of Beeches, because of the might of the trees, the sun won't go through so during the day it's still slightly dark in there and it's a special feeling.

Note, though, that you've got to be really careful with mods that use the game's scripting system to add new gameplay functionality. The Morrowind engine, especially Skyrim and Fallout 4's versions of it, handles its scripting terribly, and having too much scripting running at once will cause the game to either put all the its scripting on hold (including all your new game mechanics from your mods, and including things like quest events and game interactions like mining), drop its scripting entirely (causing your game mechanics, quests, etc, to break entirely), or just put completely random parts of its engine functionality on hold/drop those completely random parts of its engine functionality entirely, causing a crash to desktop in the near-to-best-case scenario.

0f7bcc No.14685356

Most games I played only used camps for cut scenes or inns away from town but have very little utility. And truth be told I'm not sure how a full game could be based on camping. Camping seems like one of those mechanics that is tied to wilderness survival games.

Then again I see camps as a base away from a base. It's essential utilities are shelter, bedding, fire for cooking, heat, pots for boiling water for cleaning. A camp's extra utilities can include work benches, crucible forges, clay kilns, tanning racks, and other things to fix and maintain your tools, baskets, and pottery.

If you're smart you'll have a mobile camp packed up with a tent, mess kit, and tinderbox at all times you can easily set up and pack away for quick shelter during bad weather. Usually if weather is clear in summer I unroll the bedroll and sleep under the stars. Insect candles and sprays keep the bugs away for the most part. And even with tent I sleep one eye open with a knife and loaded pistol in reach in case of an ambush. If you have a buddy take shifts on the watch or bring a dog.

Pretty sure this could be translated into game mechanics. However there's not an easy way of doing this without fucking up.

Also I live in great plains. So there are no innawoods. Natural wood is a comodity. Common wilderness resources here is all grass, weeds, mud, clay, rattlesnakes, and if you can kill a cyote without getting caught, bone and hide.
