I wish it were just any one thing. Family death. Medical scare. Work's being a bitch. Everyone I talk about RL shit with people leaves me feeling dirty when it's supposed to make me feel clean. Explaining basic humanity to people in anything - like why someone shouldn't go to jail for a joke, why another middle east war wouldn't be good - seems to be met with such hostility and ridicule that I don't know how to cope. In short, been having a shit few months with some shit people. I thought I'd let it out with my show backlog so I finished Devilman Crybaby. the show's mostly good, but that downer ending can go fuck itself. I'm okay with sad ends but that mostly took my investment and laughed at me for having it. Satan in that version of the story is a monstrous cunt and he gets no comeuppance that REMOTELY measures up to the harm he did
So yeah, I wouldn't mind some catharsis somewhere

Devil may cry 4 perhaps? The main villain in the game is pretty much an asshole lusting for power and more than willing to screw over his men/allies to get it (doesn't have much else in terms of motive or goal). You get to fight him a couple times and it's really satisfying when you get to.

Smart choice avoiding God of war, the series has awesome boss battles, but villain-based-catharsis is not it's forte, hell, most of whomever you meet in the game, will die. GoW1 is a straight-up tragedy. I never played GoW 2 but I do know that almost everyone in GoW3 is a shitty person for questionable reasons.
Among my collection, I personally would recommend these:
>System Shock (2) & Bioshock (classic. bioshock 2 is a maybe, but avoid infinite, the villain there has little presence.)
>Final Fantasy 2, 5 & 6 (6 was 3 for the american SNES)

The third game also had Vergil, who isn't really a complete asshole to you, but he is your rival who you get to fight over the course of the game. He's also the final boss you fight against, but the ending of the fight will probably leave you more with feels instead of catharsis over defeating him.
