I know this is technically not one of the better Metroid games but I loved this game's multiplayer. The single player is unremarkable but I feel like this is one of the most underrated multiplayer arena shooters of all time, especially since it was on a handheld with 4 mb of memory
I feel like there's a lot of potential for a Hunters 2 to be a fun character/class based multiplayer shooter but realistically the best thing I can hope for is an online multiplayer component in Metroid Prime 4, I think. BAMCO PLEASE
Who was your favorite hunter, /v/? Do you think this series could be developed into something like an Overwatch style game (but good obviously) or should it stay as a one time interesting experiment in the series?

>but realistically the best thing I can hope for is an online multiplayer component in Metroid Prime 4, I think.
Unless memory fails me the multiplayer component in Prime 2 was pretty underwhelming. They've been teasing that Prime 4 will have something to do with Sylux, though, so there's a chance you might get your wish.
I remember enjoying Trace quite a bit but was never very good at this game, even discounting how prevalent hackers were. Maybe it was just the control scheme.
b1d30c No.14661300
I remember the multiplayer being pretty fun despite all of the hacking. It is certainly a better arena shooter than anything we have gotten in the past few years

>Unless memory fails me the multiplayer component in Prime 2 was pretty underwhelming.
True, but I think that has to do with the fact that you could only play as Samus but recolored and the Prime 1/2 control scheme wasn't great
Part of the appeal of Hunters for me was playing as different bounty hunters (all of them with cool designs and alt forms) and using their different weapons.
>They've been teasing that Prime 4 will have something to do with Sylux, though
Yeah wasn't his ship at the end of Prime 3
I have no idea why they keep teasing him as being integral to Samus' past because I can't really remember him having all that much story in Hunters. (There barely was a story in Hunters)
cdf408 No.14661312
Honestly, all I remember about the Hunters MP were the hackers everywhere
I don't understand why you'd go out of your way to cheat in a barely populated multiplayer DS game, but alright
89aed1 No.14661336
I don't remember any hackers. Maybe I was just too naive to notice, or maybe I played before that was possible. Pretty cool that they basically ported Quake 3 to the DS though.
9dff7f No.14661349
It was a lot of fun. The singleplayer wasn't great, but it was technically very cool. I liked the engine and the controls were really good; I just wish they did something better with the foundation. Multiplayer was really great if you managed to get 4 people together who had the game for local play. That was a blast.
>>14661336
It wasn't too bad for a month or so after the game released, but it got horrible later on. The biggest issues were the wallhacks. People would just walk into a wall and sit there shooting everybody they could see. I'm not sure how much fun you could possibly have just sitting in a wall shooting people in an online Metroid multiplayer game that nobody plays anymore because it's full of hackers (I was getting hackers in at least 75% of my games), but people still did it.

Sylux and Weavel were the only characters that had any relevant backstory to the series. Sylux, in particular, was heavily tied to the Federation, with implications that he/she is also tied to Samus in some way. The others just had their own, personal motivations that had nothing to do with the Metroid series, aside from expanding the setting a bit.

>Samus
No introduction needed.
>Noxus
Nigga looks like a Sanghelli from Halo. He was probably my favorite, I could only imagine how pissed-off people must have gotten out of me freezing them and getting cheap headshots with the Judicator, I hope they at-least bring him back in a multiplayer mode.
>Trace
Obligatory sniper class, I think the idea of Tracer coming from a hivemind race is kind of interesting though, I hope they bring him back.
>Weavel
Space pirate Master Chief. His altform was pretty-cool though, I'd like to see him return as a recurring boss/rival.
>Kamden
Soy-drinking bugman.
>Sylux
Cool character design, really cheap in multiplayer since the shock coil replenishes his health. Using his altform to float around lowgrav maps and get out of bounds to pick others off with the sniper was always great though.
>Spire
Cool altform and special weapon, but since he's such a bulky bastard he's an easy target for missiles, the sniper, and the shock coil.
Damn I miss me some Metroid Prime Hunters. What are the chances of a multiplayer revival like a Halo map mod or something like Goldeneye source? Probably none since Nintendo are so fucking stingy about their IP's these days.

Sylux was just OP in general. His weapon gets stronger the longer it's on someone, his alt-form has the fastest normal speed and is only beaten by a boosting morphball, and surrounding someone with three bombs was a stupidly deadly move. I should know, as often as I played as him.

Me too. I think Metroid should stay more-atmospheric and self-contained as far as the single-player goes, but I welcomed the addition of new characters and a fleshing-out of the universe outside of simply Space Pirates and feds. I'm really hoping they finally expand on that in Metroid Prime 4 but I guess only time will tell.

>>14661349
Most of those weren't hacks. It was pretty easy to break out of the maps most of the time. Since a lot of the maps were based on areas in the single player game, if you knew where a room was outside of the area, you could force yourself out of the map safely using missiles.
