Why do people often say that Tony Hawk Underground is the pinnacle of the series? In your opinion which one is the best and what would you recommend for a first time player?

>Why do people often say that Tony Hawk Underground is the pinnacle of the series
Best blend of story/gameplay in my opinion. It also had a ton of great maps like Tampa, New Jersey and Moscow.
Later stories like THUG2 weren't as good. American Wasteland is pretty good but is shorter and I wouldn't say the maps were as good (excluding West LA that was really good. The Classic Mode maps were also pretty good).
> In your opinion which one is the best and what would you recommend for a first time player?
THUG1 has a good blend of gameplay/story and it explains all of the mechanics really well. Also lacks a lot of cheese and broken mechanics like flips and bert slides
39fcd8 No.14659577
THUG had a lot of excellent maps in it. also that level in THUG takes place in Florida and is a joking about Jeb cuz he was the governor of Florida. My favorite is 2X because it has the original THPS levels and THPS2's great levels all prettied up and not gaudy looking. Nice high resolution textures, good shader effects like fur for grass, and a clean aesthetic. THPS3 has my favorite levels, particularly suburbia and the airport and canada, and I think THUG went a little overboard with some of the missions and the moves, also sick difficulty is balanced like shit in THUG where you'll have optional missions that require you to get a 150K point combo but a mainline mission which requires you to get a 25K combo or a 100K high score. Very poorly planned.

The ending was great, I like the story as it is, I just find it ironic that the protag goes "It was never about the money" when by that point he's pro and he's got a sponsorship and even a shoe made making him big bucks.

The irony is mitigated when you realize the protag's real motivation was the recognition. Sponsorship and dosh is just a sidenote compared to the sheer fame

IIRC, Player-chang was considered persona non grata after the tank incident in Moscow and was removed from the pro team, meaning that your shoe and board deals were most likely terminated.
So, yeah, at that point, it really was never about the money; rather, it was about getting actual credit for the rooftop McTwist in Hawaii.

after that you get back home to Peralta and start your own pro team, signing a few other notable pros on board. It's probably the greatest part of the game because you're doing challenging objectives as a variety of skaters in great environments. My favorite is the retro challenge where your move set gets limited bit by bit based on the limitations of previous THPS games.

It's more 1 with manuals, but no bunny hopping or sticker stomping.
