Blade of Darkness is pretty good. Choose between 4 characters, each having their own preferred type of weapon, stats, and playstyle i guess and hack and slash through neatly designed levels to get some magic runes so you can beat the big bad. Some of the moves you get as you level up might be op to use so you can decide if you want to plow through the enemies but the base moves are enough to beat the game i think (only did it as a knight, basically used just the 4 basic moves + dodge, but it got pretty damn though near the end).
Try to get the runes when you first step into a level as they are a bit hidden and will give a good weapon if you gather them all. You can return to get them later but the level will be filled with much tougher enemies and its kind of a pain in the ass to retread the same level to find some thing you probably could've seen the first time if you looked around a bit more.
Throughout the levels there are stuff you collect that will help you in the forms of potions new weapons and such. Usually there are some higher level weapons hidden in a level, or maybe a piece of armor that boosts defense permanently. Each character has a different "level" of armor so for example the knight can gather light, medium, heavy and the barbarian can only get up to medium iirc. Also armors differ from each other so you may find one that doesn't suit you so you have to pass it. But its pretty easy to get all the stuff you need eventually. There are also some unique/hidden weapons like some amazon bow (that i never found), a poison sword, an ice sword and so on. Ranged weapons are kinda lacking, the bow is mostly used as a tool for some puzzles later, i guess you could use it to shoot down some weaker enemies but that's about it.
Overall a pretty fun decent game, has some "balance" issues (for example the amazon gets a move at lvl 3 or something that will destroy lots of enemies with ease, and because she uses pike weapons you are safe most of the time), the final boss is kinda of a pushover but otherwise the game shines in its level design, enemy variety is pretty good and the fighting mechanic is solid.
