NISA's current situation
NISA has been losing IPs and they are in a very bad situation. You have to understand that NIS makes absolutely no profits at all and relies exclusively on NISA to stay aflota, meaning that NISA itself has a big handicap. In other words: they are desperate. They know that if they can't keep bringing new games/releases, they could die. But what if they lose Falcom as well?
NIS/A's relationship with Falcom
In the last years, NISA has been releasing Falcom games on Europe on behalf of XSEED (which translates and releases their games most of the time for NA and PC). This time, NISA went all desperate and managed to get Ys 8. They promised a PC port day 1 and French tl.
But because the translation was garbage, there was a small email campaign directed to Falcom. A few days later, they apologised promised a retranslation (Falcom probably saw the emails and demanded NIS/A an answer).
In other words, they fucked up and Falcom didn't like that at all. And they just fucked up again: the day 1 PC port got delayed 7 months and it's utter trash.
The final blow to hurt even further Falcom and NISA's relationship
In a recent shareholder's meeting, Falcom's president pointed out how well received are their games on PC thanks to Steam and GOG reviews. If the game gets a massive amount of negative reviews, Falcom will get the message: fans don't want NISA's releases.
'What to do
Get the game on Steam or GOG, play the game for less than 2 hours, then submit a negative review- Don't make it painfully obvious that you hate NISA, focus exclusively on the issues. Finally, ask for a refund and get your money back.
On the other hand, mark as helpful all the negative reviews on Steam/GOG and do the oppositve to positive reviews.
Ys 8 was a game made with the Western market in mind, and NISA fucked them up. Now it's time for them to lose another publisher. Hit them where it hurts.

That strategy of theirs seems to have kind of backfired in the censors faces. Xenoblade 2 was the first game this was supposed to happen to and the female designs are probably the lewdest thing Nintendo has ever put out, outside from Bayonetta. None of the costumes or art assets were touched during localization, they even put it out with Japanese voices in the west. Now the script still had an absurd amount of nonsensical name changes and parts of the script were still censored. However, that doesn't give us an excuse to let up. Yes, Persona 5 and Xenoblade 2 did receive "good" translations, but they're also average in quality. And, as what usually happens, after people see 1 or 2 "victories", they then give up thinking that "My work is done". The work is never done. Just because you pushed people back, even just a little bit, that isn't going to stop them from retaliating or falling back into their old practices much sooner than later. The biggest issue is that we have consistently hold people and companies up to the highest possible standards and demand that they reach those standards. If we don't, then we'll fall right back into the same mess we've been fighting to get out of.

The email campaign was sent when the PS4 and Vita version launched and people found out the translation was pretty much a machine translation. They then had to relocalize the game and released a patch in January. The patch barely did anything. They used the patched localization for the PC version and it’s still riddled with problems.

Well, my guess is that they never actually intended to release the PS4 or Vita versions with a decent translation in the first place. They were always going to patch it, but they were going to do it after one small announcement and then never touch it again. They never expected the backlash they got because it has never happened before with their releases. Falcom got on their asses, maybe, then a new guy had to come in and just finish what NISA had. There never was a relocalization attempt. There was them finishing the game. That's just what I believe though. The only thing to back this up is timing of everything.

Alan Costa pretty much said they didn't even know what they published was shit even by their low standards, even after dubbing it into English. One reviewer (who already played the Vita version in Japanese and even joined the fan edit project back in September 2017) went as far as to email NISA about the translation during the review embargo, pointing out a bunch of errors and lost references to previous games, and all he got was this generic response: "Our localization team has put a lot of effort to ensure our translated text is as close to the Japanese original and all of the translated text has been approved by Nihon Falcom" is the answer he got:"
The only feasible explanation I can think of to have as many mistakes as they did was simply that they were trying to rush as quickly as possible to get it out and thought that they could pull a fast one without coming close to actually editing the script. Would also explain the PC delays, as the port was nowhere near ready. Timing for the relocalization announcement suggests NISA saw the email campaign (meant for Falcom) and knew they had a slim window to apologize + reframe the story on their terms. One could view a supposed "you fix it" message as code for "fix it or lose work"; NISA overpromised shit from the start and wants to sell a Plan B to stay in Falcom's good graces.
