SH Collection was a very special case because it was lead by the hugely pretentious and dim witted man who "loves SH more than you do" that made other several crappy Silent Hill games and gained false confidence in developing thanks to it. Projects like this are usually approached from a more respectful angle, it's not very often that they hire someone who doesn't understand the work, thinks the work is shit, hates it, wants to change it, and then begrudgingly does a bad job at it because they didn't let him change it.

It was the first to run WinCE games but outside of that there's no reason to use it, unless you need WinCE stuff and don't have an absurdly powerful desktop CPU.

NullDC/Reicast /ReDream are all the same flawed implementation based on the same public docs (except the last one decided that it was somehow reasonable to charge money and close the sources despite running worse than the other two)

MAME is trash and will never be usable for DC and DC based arcade boards.

Actually God of War started QTE cancer, Shenmue's QTEs pop up a button on screen but it always relates to the action you're preforming making it little more than a not subtle indication of what you should do to advance a flashy animated sequence. God of War is what made QTEs cancer by making them into "random button pops up! push it to kill!!!" bullshit, not to mention you can't blame Shenmue for popularizing anything, it's a game that was essentially an unknown flop for it's time with a cult following. God of War on the other hand was a massive mainstream success that effected the industry, and what the industry took from it was "Random Button QTEs! I've always said that re-releasing the previous Shenmue games would be the death blow for Shenmue 3. Those games are just not good and are a fucking chore to play. I'll admit I was crazy about the first one when I first played it, but in reality it was the technology and the novelty of interacting with a realistic 3D world that won me over. By the second game I was no longer impressed, and their value has been in free fall ever since. Other than a few outliers, there's no way a person playing those games in 2018 would actually play them to completion and be left wanting for more.

Just Because Shenmue has a detailed world you encouraged to interact with doesn't make it a walking sim. The term Walking Sim came from the necessity of having to describe "games" that had no real gameplay besides walking to points that make the story proceed.

If Shenmue is a walking sim then any game with detailed environments that you can interact with is a walking sim.
