Yes, that was the plan. There weren't enough earthlings left to mount an invasion of Algol, so they used technology to make them dependent and weak - and then were going to deny them access to the tech they relied on and then use the Nei-Type biomonsters to cleanse the planets of native life - which they could then colonize, or exploit for resources (or just fuck up because we realized it's in our nature to destroy worlds - their motivation isn't exactly clear, and probably more than a little influenced by Dark Force). The Nei-Types were designed to be sterile, to grow to lethality within a year, and die off not long after.
Rika bucks this trend, since the GENE AI which was carrying out the mission of DAUGHTER (Mother Brain's backup) and producing more Nei-Types was destroyed shortly before PSIV - leaving SEED as next in line resume the task, but SEED's primary function was the creation of new life to support the terraformed biosphere, so he created Nei-types with the ability to get pregnant (and spread his cocktail of beneficial genes throughout the human population which they'd need as the planet reverted to a desert wasteland) and with substantially longer lifespans necessary to raise the human/numan hybrid children.
It's even the case in PSO where Sue (I think during one of the Black Paper quests) makes a comment about Numan lifespans - because they're artificially created beings and potentially unstable - that she could die tomorrow.

They're 100% done. The translation is totally complete and implemented. The problem is the translator is a little faggot who doesn't want to upset the hacker who did most of the programming and find someone else to polish off the last few crash bugs associated with the translation. The hacker is a glory hound shitstirrer who has a half dozen projects going at once and doesn't actually finish any of them, just tries to keep them on the line as long as possible and only shows up to do a bare minimum work if the team tries to find someone to replace him. At least three times now the translator has considered finding some other programmer, then the guy comes back claiming he'll finish it, before doing literally nothing and leaving the cucked translator to sit on his hands for another year or so until people convince him to try again.
If someone could get the faggot to release what he's done so far the translation could probably be released within a week of community effort, but no, he's a faggot.

PSIII is my least favorite, and because of that, the one I'm most desperate to see a remake of. Most of what was terrible about it was it's UI and pacing, and the plot being more of a side-story to the main series - but still numbered as a main-line game - didn't help.
It was rushed out of the door to capitalize on PSII's success, but really suffered from not having any of the back-ground lore that Team Phantasy Star created to inform it's story. So it not only didn't really fit in all that well, but it couldn't springboard properly for future lore to wrap around and incorporate seamlessly. Something that, remaking now with the hindsight of PSIV (and maybe PSO) - they could remedy. Or at least smooth out the edges. PSO was apparently originally supposed to be a sort of sequel to PSIII and fill in some of the old plotholes - but that was shitcanned fairly early in development. You can really tell where the seams are in Episode 1, but in later episodes it was completely forgotten.
If they do remake PSIII one of these days, they really need to hew close to Toyo Ozaki's designs and bring them to life. Either the more technical and detailed designs, or the "Sailor Moon" inspired stuff. Either is fine with me.

What are Nei weapons doing on the Alissa III, then? Also, the whole idea of a fleet of massive world-ship evacuation pods being present on Palma at a time when travel between planets was pretty much forbidden is odd enough, but that they were likely constructed (or at least maintained and the public knew enough about them to evacuate on short notice) is completely counter to Mother Brain's motivations and stated goals. Also, from the context of the game's release without the hindsight of PSIV's additional lore - how would one even explain how Dark Force could simultaneously be aboard the Alissa III and the Noah? The millennial cycle had already been established, and even PSIII follows this convention despite not having any real reason to.

It's an unfinished mess. It's like they got the final boss, a few story points and forgot to put anything in between. Every town uses the exact same tileset. Green grass, wooden houses. Even in the desert and snow areas.
Music that changes depending on how well you're doing is a cool idea… but the music itself is absolute shit and the changes are too sudden and don't mesh well.
Levelling is inconsistent. Some characters need 15 xp to go from 1 to 2 while others need 36767 xp to do the same but have stats of a level 40.
There's no foreshadowing. Everything just happens. (Example: Hey dude, I was actually the monster from the first generation but don't tell your dad m'kay)
The story was pretty much exposed through dialogue with 5 old men in a town in the middle of fucking nowhere you don't even need to visit.
Final boss theme was kickass though. Embed related.

I played the trilogy a long time ago so I can't recall the specifics but about Dark Force being in two places at the same time, I think it's possible since Dark Force is just a figment of Profound Darkness. With the seal broken, more than one Dark Force is not a stretch. What bothered me though is how Dark Force bothered to chase the fleet in the first place. His whole motivation is to destroy Algol and be set free so a fleet of wek humans and robots should be completely beneath him.

Yes, but that only applies to post-PSIV lore. At the time it was developed, it was a huge plothole. To make matters worse, the Neo-Palm in Sean's ending makes direct reference to Dark Force - meaning they either fought their own version or had Espers aboard since knowledge of Dark Force wasn't really known outside of Espers and the Landale lineage. Presumably they'd also have to have their own cache of Nei Weapons to effectively fight him if he did infest their ship too.

It's not a myth. It happened during the first few months after the game's official release. Hackers would move vital NPCs, like the ones to take quests or change class, to areas where players couldn't reach and even use hacks to teleport players to those areas. The hackers would then report the innocent players as hackers, resulting in people who had done nothing wrong getting banned. The reason the hackers did this was supposedly because no localization had been announced, so they wanted to "teach Sega a lesson." You can google something like "hackers say they want to teach Sega a lesson" and get a couple of articles with the details. Couple this with SEA monkeys DDoSing the JP server to death for a week toward the end of Episode 2, and you can see why they wouldn't want foreigners anywhere near the game.
After all this time, though, those hackers moved on to shit up other games ages ago, and the SEA server is dead and buried. The main reason there's no localization at this point is because Sega knows there's no market for it. Western interest in the game is near zero after almost six years of waiting for nothing, westerners already call PSO2 pay to win garbage despite not selling weapons or units in its gacha, and anyone who wanted to play it is already doing so on the JP server.
19d55e No.14649892
>>14649726
I seem to remember a bunch of the IPs of those "hackers" coming from SEA territories. In any event, that strikes me as a hell of a weak reason to abandon localization to other territories. Japan has it's own share of cheaters, and anybody played PSO on the DC and PSP2i import would tell you the same. Cheaters are going to happen in online games. Period. It's not on the playerbase to police themselves in order to encourage localization, but it's on the company producing and managing the project to be able to identify and correctly deal with the situation in a timely manner. Not saying it's easy, but it's part of doing business. Sega has consistently failed to meet even baseline anti-cheat standards with all of their online Phantasy Star games. At most they usually just slap on GameGuard and offer a website to submit reports. You'd almost think the whole fucking franchise at this point was just a cash generator for funding Sonic game development.
The real reason why don't bring it to the west, and never really planned to, is because very early on in the game's lifecycle they started in hard with the licensing bullshit - which is a complete fucking jew-lawyer filled nightmare and very expensive to manage internationally.
People have been blaming cheaters as a means of propping up apologetics for Sega since the PSO days. It's old, and it's bullshit… and even if it were true, then it's still a load of bullshit that a major international publisher like Sega can't handle what even shitty Third-Rate/Perfect World Korean MMOs manage to do.

Not very convincing, to be honest. The localization of PSP2 had almost all of the collab items in it, if I remember right. JP PSU also had tons of collab shit, and SoA handled that by just never bringing any of it west, which would have been a cheap, simple option for a PSO2 localization. Besides, the average western fan of Japanese games generally eats any piece of shit put in front of them (see: Fire Emblem Fates) and probably wouldn't care that collab stuff was gone. In the end, I really do think the real reason is that they knew there was just no market for a game like PSO2 in the west and let the media use the hacking scare to get western gamers to think that was the reason.

Why would anybody play non-melee class in a cuhrayzee game like PSO2?
It's almost like different people have different tastes.

I wasn't talking about PSO2, I was talking about PSP2i, where melee classes are objectively the worst damage dealers unless you're playing with other people and relying on them to build chains for you. In every other instance, you're better off playing a Force or Ranger - and a Ranger with CSII Shotgun can put out the same, if not superior damage, while not being half as fragile and the animation sequence is not only controllable - but works equally well for both close range damage sponge enemies as well as crowd control. The only reason you have to switch weapons at all is the occasional out-of-range weakspot on bosses, and rifle CS are fucking multi-hit for some reason so it's like laying down a cluster-bomb fired from a sniper rifle.

>have 400 crests
>would have had slightly more if i didnt skip out on certain parts of the campaigns like hans COs and PvPs fights
>considering doing solo XQ on 5 classes to do it
>start doing it with Summoner
>deus shreds through my pets and keep dying at phaleg due to the gay as electric tiles
>do it as other classes and still die to phaleg
I know im a shitter but honestly i think i'd be better off until may 16th to get my remaining crests. this XQ is stressfull and tedious

I imagine vocal minority of tryhard japs were screeching at sega for years now. They got what the wanted, not-retard players just ignored this whole mess.

I still like the game and all dont get me wrong. I just hate how tryhards (japs obviously because the ENG tryhards are a goddamned joke) complain about muh leechers and muh exper filter. That shit does fucking nothing and makes shit more stupid. Already people are complaining that about the welfare *14s and shit because they cant dickwave their drops as hard nowadays

To be fair, I've seen a ton of people in the English speaking community complain that PSO2 is too easy, and for the most part, they're right. The problem is when this makes MMO devs implement shit like the Phaleg fight because of that vocal minority and end up with Everquest Syndrome.
>>14663521
I disagree. The expert filter did some good. It kept out the worst of the worst or people who had been power leveled and didn't have gear appropriate for their level. I remember a Japanese player posting about some asshat doing ultimate Amdu with a +1 red sword. Expert filter is basically for people like that. For most stuff, it's just the difference between, say, a 8-10 minute omega Luther versus a 20 minute Luther, but in the emergency only buster quest, it can be the difference between winning or losing the battle.

You're supposed to read the PSII manga if you want a story. As I understand it, the team always wanted to make the games story heavy - but the two most popular JRPGs at the time were DQ & FF which were very story light and didn't even have set characters in favor of generic classes. So Sega released a ton of supplementary material, text adventures, radio shows, manga/tankobon, etc - and it was a hit. So they went apeshit with Phantasy Star IV and tried to make it an extravagant FMV filled story heavy game that had to be on the SegaCD - until the Sega CD died and they had to rework their ideas into what would become PSIV.

forgot to mention, the reason they didn't before was because of cartridge space concessions. PSIV ended up having to have special carts manufactured for it with more memory - which is why it cost so much more at release. Sega couldn't justify the expense/higher retail price on an experiment when people seemed so far content with bare-bones stuff that FF/DQ was offering

You could also play the adventure game spinoff of PSII. They all have complete fan translations.

Found this on the PSIV Kikepedia page.
Apparently reviewers claimed that PSIV was misogynistic, had terrible music, and had a generic story. Didn't read any of the actual reviews firsthand, but it sounds like a synopsis right out of [[current year]] - a bunch of political moralizing, not actually playing the game, and dick-sucking on more popular franchises for readership loyalty points. Either games journalists have always been terrible or whoever wrote that synopsis was cherry picking according to their current biases.

I'm aware that they put the story in separate material, but that doesn't make the game itself any better.

Oh fuck that. It's a downgrade from old Tower Defence EQs, and it's supposed to a whole new type of qest? I hate it so much. It's not content.

What the fuck? It's like I played a completely different game than them. Especially in regards to the music, this track in particular perfectly represents the feelings a game should evoke during a bossfight, it gives off a very well executed sense of hopelessness and dread.

I thiiiink the Campaign quest gives you stuff once its removed?
However no one likes las vegas so it is gonna take some time plus the 300%hp that they have right now

I think this is the real reason why SEGA wont bring this to overseas, the way they are still behave like a normal game company without the multiculturalism and crap, could give them trouble
And stuff from the game itself like in ep 4 you fight biblical god which should make a lot of people angry
