The problem I have with it is that it turns the game into a walking simulator or movie game like Until Dawn. Even when I used to turn on god mode and infinite ammo in Jedi Knight, I still had to complete objectives and find my way around large, complex areas to do that. You know, I've always been told this and I never gave it much thought until I had a meaningful interaction with women.

As far as the guy in that video goes, he was talking about the DMC series as a whole, so I think he means he grew up with DMC1 and so on, and because of that he thinks he knows what he's talking about when calming DmC to be great. Even though just hearing how he talks about the series, proves even if he played it when growing up he clearly didn't pay any fucking attention to anything, because he gets basic shit about the series wrong.
Like one of his points is that people say DmC's balance is broken, Then to refute this he says tons of people easily get SSS ranks so

One, 40k is much older than GoW. When the venerable Dean Takahashi, world renowned expert on jack shit, claims that the armor in Space Marine is a derivative of the GoW grunts, this is how you know he's a fucking retard (aside from his horrifyingly atrocious Cuphead gameplay). Secondly, mechanically speaking Space Marine is a hack and slash/shooter hybrid that is completely devoid of cover. Gears of War is a TPS that heavily relies on cover and grenades, and has no real melee combat (you press a button when you get close to an enemy and it slips into an execution animation).
Outside of having beefy soldier types fucking up anything that moves, the games are nothing alike. I'm betting serious money that Dean didn't play or even look at either games; he probably took a look at a few screenshots, tried to fabricate some idea for what he could write about in order to justify his job, and went ahead and did it, pulling things directly out of his ass.
