d685df No.14605444

Seeing as a release for the Switch is inevitable, I thought it'd be fun to discuss Animal Crossing and similar fake life simulations that help null the existential loneliness. And while I've never been largely invested in Animal Crossing myself, I see the potential behind it and the scripted amalgamations of code that will never truly love you. That being said, what ideal mechanics / characters / settings / things / etc would you want out of an immersive town simulation to forget about the real world? Do you have a favorite villager or favorite animal/personality you'd want to see? What more would you want to do/have added? Are simulations inherently worthless genres in the end?

Mods deleted last thread, I am not the same OP though, try not to shit up this thread this time, please.

When mysims came out in 07 i was 8 years old idk why but i had an almost brother like love to pic related his name was Ray and after school i would come home and everyday I would boot up the wii and only hangout with that character. After a few months of doing this my mom felt as if i grew too attached to a fictional character and had to tell me that he wasnt real. So being the dumbass I am, decided to not listen to my moms advice but to continue loving him until i sold the game next year. I often find myself thinking about this and i never really talked about it until now, I'm 19 now and i have no attachment to anything in recent years except my dog.

>mechanics

Life sims are a hard balance when it comes to mechanics. If you make them too real then they can feel overbearing and less fun, If you make them too cozy then the world feels stale and boring. Hunger, thirst, and sleep/energy mechanics are the big three. If Nintendo were to implement these mechanics into Animal Crossing, they would need to focus on rewarding the player for doing them rather than punishing players for not. Maybe give an invisible boost to fishing/bug catching/gardening when doing so just after eating or make the player faster for a short while after drinking coffee. The exception to this rule would be seasonal temperature mechanics. Make it so that wearing thick clothing in the summer can cause a heat stroke that sends the player back to their house and wearing thin clothes in the winter or walking in the rain without an umbrella could give the player a cold that scares away bugs/fish with occasional random sneezing.

>characters

The ability to stay in touch after they move away would be cool, but only if you were good friends before they moved away. I'd also like it if they would visit every once and a while during the holidays.

>settings

It would be nice to invite animals to hangout. Maybe even have the ability to host a house party. I never liked that you just had to have a million random conversations just for the hopes that the animal would bring something up. I want to be able to make the first move.

>things

An anon brought this up last thread, but it would be fun to have the pool tables/dartboards/exc. in your house act as bare-bones mini games that you can play solo, multi, or with an animal CPU.

Babysitting meters in simulations is an absolute buzzkill for me and to any game really. It's not fun to perform a mundane action and keep a meter full. I like your ideas with coffee, not so much with clothes. I'd rather have the character express it and villagers bring it up in conversation. For example a runny nose in winter with little clothing on and sweating in summer with a coat on. I think those are good ideas though if the player would prefer that and add a hardcore management aspect to it. You'd need to be able to turn it on/off though.

>An anon brought this up last thread

If it was the thread that just got deleted, that anon was probably me. I want them to add event planning in some way. Getting villagers together to play soccer, go hiking, baking, swimming, etc. Something that makes the world feel more lively and less empty/stagnant. More varied/unique dialogue would be nice too as well as basic questions or statements like their clothes look nice, what they did today, how they're feeling, favorite things, etc. I get tired of the random conversations too. Being able to stay in touch with them would make a greater use for letters too, and maybe they could send you stuff from their new place / the place they visited.

>>14605934

It's called Animal Crossing for a reason, anon. Plus you can interact with humans in real life.

UPDATE!

The official Animal Crossing website has been updated recently with a bunch of placeholder articles so there might be an announcement in the works. Don't expect anything pre-E3, though.

>>14605981

>I think those are good ideas though if the player would prefer that and add a hardcore management aspect to it. You'd need to be able to turn it on/off though.

Turning it on and off at will would kind of defeat the purpose of having it. But I can see where you're coming from, though. Purely cosmetic cues that the player is too hot or cold would be fun, but if they added a sickness mechanic then it would need to be on all the time and medicine would need to be available in all versions of the nookling's shop instead of just the upgraded versions.

>>14609772

>Turning it on and off at will would kind of defeat the purpose of having it.

Or having a separate save file or town for it, but you get the point. Plus there's no way to die in Animal Crossing and it would be off putting to have that sort of punishment for not filling up meters like the Sims, so those would be mild annoyances at best. Unless they added some sort of poverty system or forced you to move towns because of it.

fa81a3 No.14610358

>>14610329

I think you misunderstood me, I never wanted meters that you needed to keep full in Animal Crossing. The gameplay would be exactly the same as it is now, you would just get a temporary boost for eating/drinking stuff. That way you're rewarded for doing so instead of being punished for not, it's completely optional.

I'd be fine with an Amiibo Festival port that I won't buy in a million years if they just made a traditional Animal Crossing game for the Switch. That or just make Amiibo Festival a mini-game in the Switch game similar to Desert Island Escape and Puzzle League in New Leaf.
