which is why I specified exactly what I was talking about later in the post. Strong vertical lines across the scene that extend beyond the intended frame have a shrinking effect on how we perceive details. I think the fact that it makes the game much easier to play is a pretty telling sign for why the mechanics in Odyssey are garbage. Also he even made the hat work with the flying. Overall the momentum is still there it looks like though. So it's literally the best parts of Mario 64 with the addition of the worst parts of Odyssey. Kind of, the logic in the game is split beween the camera, and the world events, using older methods, you could hack nearly any emulator to "overclock" the processor and get the camera moving at 60fps, what makes the mod interesting is that they've used cheat codes/patches to make the characters and animations happen at double the framerate. This still isn't 60fps I remember reading about how mario is animated, apparently he's only going like 15 fps or something you can see this any time Mario is running and the camera is moving, Mario won't move every frame the camera does. As far as world LOGIC, I'm honestly unsure of the rate that is going.

FPS as a concept didn't exist when Mario was released, at most you'd call it lag when it slowed down and got choppy. During this time there was no consideration whatsoever about a possible high FPS in the future from hacked emulation when designing games, maybe the hack already takes this into account but the widescreen could be a problem. In fact the FPS these games were designed for was 12-14FPS to anyone who didn't grow up with that, it's virtually unplayable.

Do you even frame based physics? The kind that make a game pretty shite for future proofing. It's the reason why for example in the PS2 era GTA games you move slower and slower in water the higher your FPS gets and the physics get weird, to the point you can't even pass the mission that involves diving underwater or take off the seaplane.

Can anyone who actually downloaded this and tried it out tell me what kind of performance you are getting? I get dips down below 60 constantly and my PC isn't like a toaster or anything, I have an R930 and i5 CPU. Could I have something configured wrong? Tried the rom with the widescreen patch both on Mupen and Project 64.

You have no idea what you're talking about. It was absolutely mind blowing going from SMW to M64 at the time.

Considering modern 3D Mario games can't hold a candle to it and it's STILL getting worthwhile romhacks that are better than them, I would disagree.

i played it once when i got a N64 emulator
the only thing that surprised me was why the fuck people hyped it so much, it was shit m8 it controled like shit, it looked like shit, i guess the level design must have been nice but truth be told i wanted to play absolutelly anything else so bad that i didn't put more than a few hours into it.
i gave it a second hcane much later when a friend lent me his N64 and i, not only remembered how bad it was but also learn how bad the controls were
Crash Bandicoot was better
and Miyamoto himself knew it
