It did the whole 3D Zelda style of gameplay an entire year prior to OoT doing it, and did it a lot more polished and fluid. Playing OoT prior to playing this is really the only way I can imagine anyone would enjoy OoT.

I own almost every Goemon game ever released and let me tell you, we missed out of a fucking lot. Goemon 3 on the SFC being one of the most tragic, and even moreso, the sequel it got on the PS1 that is basically Goemon's SotN in terms of quality.

Okamiden was such a disappointment. They should have staved of development enough to have been a 3DS launch title that wouldn't have been restricted by the DS limitations. The entire experience of playing Okamiden just feels shitty and makes you wish you were playing Okami instead.

It came out in 2006. The 3DS didn't come out until the 2010s and by then they were making Goemon pachinko.

Ocarina of Time's gameplay wasn't something truly unique and inventive that set the genre forwards, a lot of what's in the game is generic adventure stuff that had existed beforehand, it's the way that it tackles 3d level design, it's camera, it's puzzles and it's AI that makes it the historically significant title that it is, and that's why it's remembered with ease over Mystical Ninja starring No-name.

With the exception of it's camera, that's wrong in every conceivable way. OOT's walking sim tier level design is it's greatest weak point, while games like Majora's Mask actually know what a video game was.

My luck there will be another Goemon game and it will either stay in Japan or be on a system I can't justify buying for it alone, much like River City.

Yeah, yeah, there are some differences between the two games, but the point is that they follow the same formula. This formula is more or less the same for subsequent games as well. Hell, even BotW follows this formula to some degree, even if it subverts some of the mainstay elements.

By the way, has anyone ever played the PS2 version of Goemon? I remember Working Designs making a big deal out of it, and then it got cancelled, because Sony wouldn't allow them to release it in the west, claiming that it would make the PS2 look like shit and ruin the brand image. I've never played it, I'm just wondering what it was like, and if we really missed out on anything or not.

These are the same people who think Ganbare Goemon 4 is the best in the series despite being the weakest on the SNES (bust still good of course.)
