They single-handedly made most "protect the castle" strategies like the God Cards useless. But unfortunately, they were a necessary evil due to Konami's power creep. When every good boss monster nowadays says "cannot be targeted/destroyed/unaffected by card effects", Kaijus become the only reliable removal option.

Kaijews were smething that changed the meta and still are active to this day with little support. They can be thrown into almost any deck to make it better. The reason being is that they make boss monsters completely useless since nothing resists tributing. Boss monsters suffered so much power creep to the point of being unnaffected by almost anything, so Kaijews were made to counter this. This is good since it destroyed powercreep with decent cards, but it is also bad since now the meta revolves around not using boss monsters at all. The current meta is now combos and monster effects. Spells and traps keep losing value over time in favor of monster effects.

IS anyone else confused by the need for Wyrm and cyberse typing? Wyrms could have been easily called dragons and cyberse could easily be machines. Wyrms barely have any support even after they made which makes most of them not effective to run in a theme deck. I understand why psychic became a type with how they all fit into their own theme itself like spellcasters do, but wyrms and cyberse just seem like already existing cards.

Is there a way to unfuck the game? Pendulums at least fit with all the mechanics of the game at the time, and just added new ones. But Links not only add mechanics, they inexorably changed the rules themselves in relation to extra deck usage, monster zones, and all that shit. They can't simply just be removed or just moved to somewhere else on the playing field like the two extra Pendulum Zones were, and Konami definitely won't outright remove them from the game.

Cards get banned not only to have some semblance of balance or lack thereof, but to sell other cards. Entire archetypes get thrown onto the ban list when their time in the sun is over to ensure that newer archetypes sell well.
In the case of Kaiser Colosseum, it prevents players from playing links or anything with the extra deck that requires two or more monsters if the player controlling Kaiser Colosseum just throws down a single monster and calls it a turn. Konami wants players to buy their new shit, and a floodgate card like Kaiser is too good of a floodgate since everything goes through link monsters now.

If there's a TCG or board game store near you I'd start there. They usually hold regular events, and even if they don't players tend to congregate in places like that anyway. Do bear in mind that yugioh isn't all that popular these days, especially after the introduction of link summoning, so you're much more likely to find MTG or Pokemon players this way than yugioh players. If there are no stores near you, the next step would be to find local groups on places like Facebook.

So YGO Vrains just began it's second season and has introduced a new spell card type that is made for link monsters. Link Magic.
To put it simply, if a Link monster in the Main Monster Zone points to the Magic/Trap zone, you can activate a Link Magic, that link magic will only affect targets that it points to. Also you can link summon to zones it points to.
The card featured was Judgement Arrows.
Its effect: If a Link Monster this card points to battles, its ATK becomes double its current ATK during damage calculation only. When this card leaves the field while it points to a monster(s), destroy all those monsters. You can only control 1 "Judgment Arrows" in your Spell & Trap Zone a Link Monster points to.

Monarchs are the only deck that have no extra deck, everything else suffers without an extra deck toolbox. Magical Muskets can be done without an extra deck, and Kozmo My favorite movie reference archetype.
If Monarchs aren't to your taste you could just play a stun or burn deck.

Just played a sealed duel on percy and it's the hypest shit, I'm amazed I'd never seen it before. Is there a way to set which cards it draws from? I'd love to play a duel with the really old stuff like Metal Raiders or LOB.

the main benefit i'm seeing here is that i don't rely on easily disruptable combos and i can fairly easily recycle level 8s, while also messing up the opponents hand

I found that the Ra's were a little too situational and I'd end up with a hand full of them.
I can't even use them as fodder for fortress, but they still have use so I sided them.
I kept the mounds because of their protection and burn effects.
I decided to boot the gearframes altogether in favour of Scap Recyclers as they're straight-up foolish burials for fortress, Ruffian Railcar and Express Knight as well as being Link fodder.
I added Qliphort Genius because its effect works well with derricrane, it has a good protection effect and I need more extra spaces.
Fortress works as an instant discard for Ruffian Railcar or Express Knight as well as a reliable beatstick/spot remover.
I kept special schedule because of its outright usefulness in reusing Express Knight. Slimes are also easy 10's so in they go too and then I threw in an upstart goblin as a free trade.
I ditched Tarantula as the main focus of the deck is rapidly summoning Gustav and burning enemy LP/brute forcing.
Finally, I sided Hidden Spellbook and Pot of Benevolence as optional spell/trap recyclers if needed.
I find my most used combo goes
>Normal summon Scrap Recycler
>Excavate fortress
>Discard Express Knight to summon fortress
>Summon Qliphort Genius with Fortress and Scrappy
>Special schedule Express Knight
>Chain Derricrane
>Genius' effect to get another derricrane/knight
>Xyz for Gustav
>Activate gustav effect, either detaching derricrane for spot removal or knight for resummoning later
Then either summon another next turn or if I'm lucky enough to also have exodius and a malefic cyber in my hand, use those for a second one straight up.

Slimes are more consistant however.
The removal from sphere mode is good but the fact that it requires three sacrifices means it relies on the enemy leaving you three monsters which just isn't reliable.
The slimes may be easy to get rid of but they're easier to get on the field.
I'll keep them sided though in case I do need them.

Yeah, but the only real time those could be played is first turn or after a wipe.
I could see myself using them considering sometimes I get slow starts, but like with sphere mode they just end up as hand clutter.
Considering they're more flexible than Sphere mode I may try running them for a while and see how I go.

It can't trigger Derricrane's effect because it isn't a machine and its summon counts as a normal meaning you can't summon Express Knight without using special schedule, meaning there is exactly one situation it works in; express knight is in the grave, you have no monsters on the board and you have special schedule in your hand.

Konami barely dabbled in the complexities that pendulum can bring outside of Odd-Eyes w/ Pendulum Magicians. The D/D archetype only has 1 of each Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz pendulum monsters, and if I remember right nobody used Darkness Armageddon?
The closest you'll get to anything of that description are link monsters that directly support those summoning methods like Needlefiber, Junk Connector, Zefra Metaltron, Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, Aleister the Meltdown Invoker, Gem-Knight Phantom Quartz, Shadoll Construct, Xtra Hero Wonder Driver, and Wind-Up Maintenance Zenmaicon.
These are the only cards out that support these summoning methods and a few of them are pretty damn generic, the ones that aren't being cards that directly support their archetypes. Frankly I just don't see Konami doing anything like what they did during MR3, I fully expect them to double down on Links format especially if the anime appearance of >>14628148 is anything to go off of. I still don't think there's enough Link support for all the archetypes that need them.
