What's the point of playing the game unless most of the game is fun?

What's the point in spamming 1 skill until you reach level cap where the game is 100% different?

230bc6 No.14590298

i would imagine anyone who played wow back in its heyday would agree with you. what's the point of this thread?

04d859 No.14590314

The gameplay doesn't change at any point during leveling unless when you play pvp/battlegrounds and even then it's up to debate on whether it's enjoyable or not. Just the attributes and the monsters you kill change over time. At the end of the day mostly the company you play the game with is the main ingredient that makes the whole experience fun and memorable. Or you can just chill out and do some casual questing and profession leveling.

bb10b4 No.14590453

Early WoW is only as fun as the people you play it with. The only enjoyable thing in that game is wiping buffed guilds going to raids. Other than that it's a terrible game. The combat is brain dead as fuck, the leveling is boring, small scale PvP is unbalanced and suffers greatly from the terrible combat system. There is not redeeming factor for WoW in any form as a "fun" game. It's just a good game for getting addicted to because of some satisfying grinds and the ability to grief in PvP. So it's an addicting bad game.

I do think WoW would be better if there was more focus on grouping. Like having most quests be (Elite) quests and most mobs be elite as well. I wouldn't want this for the entire game, it could start at level 40 zones for example. Guilds would be much more tight-knit if you constantly required grouping to get to level 60.

>tfw spent most of my time there at max level, catching deviate fish and checking Lushwater and the pre-instance of WC for the three rare mobs that dropped BoE blues while shitting up general chat

Wasn't nearly worth the time shekel-wise, pure comfort value.

Fitting that the expac that killed the game for me was the one that also fucked the Barrens. While a bigger emphasis on working together with other players seems like the most intuitive idea to bring back what actually made MMOs good back then…

Please, consider the playerbase you have today. Think about the kind of people that still plays MMO's. Do you seriously want to play with any of them? Do you want to be forced to play with them?

There'd be the guy that has a wikia open in his browser and tells everyone how to do everything so you never have to figure stuff out.

There's the guy running a java applet to calculate total DPS based on your gear and spec, telling everyone what they should change to become optimal.

There's the PvP guy that's here just to clear stuff until he's max level and can fuck off, always rushing everyone.

There's the guy that doesn't say a word the whole time because he's price fixing the auction house while everyone else is talking and only chimmers in when discussing loot distribution.

There's the completionist that just wants some badge or something and wants this to be done as fast as possible.

There's the guy that's been "doing this same fukken raid for 5 hours now, and everyone has let me fucking down! I'm so sick of this shit, don't you fucking dare fuck it up!"

I think that's enough bad but recognizable stereotypes to dissuade anyone from this idea. MMOs can't be fixed until their playerbase is fixed. And quite honestly, considering the loot fest with pointless story, characters and world they tend to be, I can't even censor those mongs for being the way they are. They are the ones playing the game the way it's meant to be played after all.

The day they stop focusing on raids that nobody cares about is the day the game will get good again. I'll take a solid quest line over a raid any day. Or better yet, sandbox elements.

Warcraft was never about the raiding, in fact everyone hated the notion of downing bosses in that environment back in vanilla as it's an impersonal experience.

For whatever reason Blizzard thought people liked it an rolled with it. And I've never seen a misstep in game direction of that proportion since.

The thing is, those people pretty much always existed, but everyone hated them, so they mostly didn't get a lot of groups. With group finders, you can't really control who you get, ignore lists are mostly useless, and it's pretty impossible to make friends. And with everything being cross-server, or in some cases, only partially cross-server, communities are all but dead. Add that to all the content being incredibly easy and risk free, and you end up with a bunch of people who never have to learn anything.

The only way to fix the playerbase is to just make an MMO in the older style, and for the devs to stick to their guns and tell people to sink or swim. The only problem is that the only way something like that could possibly happen is with WoW Classic, and Blizzard is completely incompetent.

Two things. First of all, a "good MMO" (one which required actual coordination to do dungeons which give good loot, and one where the combat isn't braindead) won't necessarily attract all of the same people that play modern WoW.

Second of all, like >14591986 said, no matchmaking for groups means no fucking cancer. Matchmaking is the worst thing to happen to multiplayer games in general, not just MMOs. It is just an excuse to allow people who nobody else wanted to play with to group with those same people. Think about Xbox Live and how retarded people fucking act, leaving their mics open while domestic violence occurs in their home, screaming at you while dead because they can communicate to alive teammates (this one is particular to the new Rainbow Sex game) etc. Now think about how multiplayer games were before 2005. Everything was run on a dedicated server controlled by admins. Nobody has the patience for that fucking shit so those people would have been permanently banned until they finally realize that yes, you actually have to behave online too.

Guild wars 1 handled this exceptionally well by making end game PvP accessible as soon as you install the game.

The last western MMO I played, it took me all of 8 or so days to get to max level only to find that endgame was full of retards who had reached endgame without learning the most basic of the game's mechanics because they hadn't read a single letter of text the game had put in front of them since the character creation process.

My problem with endgame is the gear treadmill.

You reach the cap and then you roll the dice to get the best gear you can.

Shit that is just going to get outmoded and practically handed out a couple months down the line anyway.

I like questing more, but for the most part you can really only do it once.

You can play the reputation game and that is delivered in several different possible ways from easy to Korean Grindfest simulator.

There is achievement hunting for doing some times interesting, but dumb stuff.

Now I'd say I am more captivated by rare drop hunting for what is now defined as the Collections tab.

My passion actually use to be

>spamming 1 skill until you reach level cap

By having a character decked out in

>heirlooms

>enchants

>potions

>scrolls

Min-max'd out the ass into a steamroller.

Made one of every class and did that to the level cap of WoD.

Now with 7.3 it is not enjoyable to do that.

Doing 5-mans is a chore.

You level entirely way too damn slow for a game with a cap of 110.

Every damn enemy from zones to dungeons level with you up to the cap of that section of the game.

It substantially ruins any sense of progress for me.

Leveled a VE to 110.

Have an LFD I want to get to 110 but I just don't think I can do that bullshit all over again.

At most 5 levels a day from 20.

Very consistent rate.

Takes me 2 weeks where before it would take me one day to go from 1-60 and then another day for each expansion.

It would be great if that was the only way to level because then the competency in end game would be better and I would care more about end game.

But they have tokens you can by that boost characters straight to 110 that completely and utterly ruin end game.

Character levels in MMOs are a cancerous meme that do nothing but create artificial, pointless barriers between players defined not by how skilled they are but how long they have played the game. Levelling character power is a completely valueless gameplay mechanic in general and is nothing more than a psychological trick on par with "Achievements" to make people feel accomplished, when the game will only ever in response make their levelling mechanically worthless as the enemies MUST become as powerful as they are now to keep the game balanced. It is the laziest form of "progression" that in reality progresses nothing. It is neither entertaining nor sensible, creates dozens of problems that need to be addressed by developers (that could be spent making actual fun gameplay instead), and in multiplayer games does nothing but create absurd power gaps. Levelling is garbage and every RPG would be better without it. Prove me wrong.

1e3e64 No.14594109

>>14593991

You are right regarding how it is implemented, but it doesn't need to be.

A proper level in an MMO should be tied to the idea of progression of doing a particular job. Something on par with unlocking skills, or giving you customization fields for certain attacks or spells.

Consider tabletop DnD. In that game you have stats and stat increases from level up are very rare and small. Coming roughly every 4 levels. Compare that to your typical MMO giving you at least 20 in just your dump stat every level (and consequently nothing to do with that stat besides raw combat) and you can immediately see the problem.

I see that in current wow they're adding in all the races that are "allied" to each faction. The alliance is literally importing nigger dwarf refugees that, in vanilla, were importing trogg-niggers to distract and kill dwarfs and gnomes so they could terrorize ironforge, 9/11 the stonewrought dam and take over Dun Morough. Now they've taken the rapefugee route and have their place in ironforge. What the fuck is even going on anymore? Even the horde have zandalari savages that they've been killing for years.

Speaking of the "lore" I know humans, dwarfs, and gnomes had strong ties to vanillas story and endgame with rag enslaving the dark irons to do the above, onyxia/black dragons in control of the stormwind army so the players must help out so the alliance doesn't fall. Besides the undead how was the horde even tied to vanillas story? What was their motivation to even raid the endgame? Ragnaros was even waging war on the nigger-orcs that fuck with the horde.

The Horde first came to Azeroth from Draenor, primarily being manipulated by the Burning Legion through the warlock Gul'dan, who tricked the Warchief Ner'zhul into making a blood pact with Kil'jaeden. On the Azeroth side of things, Sargeras (the Dark Titan who is in charge of the Legion) possessed the sorcerer Medivh and used him to open the Dark Portal for Gul'dan to begin the Horde's invasion of Azeroth.

TL;DR The Horde ties into the story as being slaves of the Burning Legion. They eventually broke free from Kil'Jaeden and Gul'dan through the actions of Thrall and Orgrim Doomhammer, which are shown in Warcraft 3 iirc.

I know she was all brainwashed or something but in Cata she had some voice lines that still seemed like she wanted to undermine the other ruling dwarfs and take over.

I know the wc3 lore I'm wondering about vanilla wow, i played horde to about lvl 40 and all i saw was this: You've proven your honor now go out and kill the night elves cause we need that land and lumber. And they didn't get a lot of love from blizzard like alliance did quest-lore wise.

>”There are about six or seven different ideas for expansions that we can take elements of and say, ‘You know what? Let’s take that and put it in this one for our next expansion after the next one.’ Or we might shift the timelines around from what we originally envisioned. There’s easily 10 years worth of stuff that we can draw from – more, really.”

This was posted in 2014 by Tom Chilton god fucking damn blizzard to hades. How much more retarded can this shit get.

Listened to a bunch of these tracks feeling nostalgic today and I realized even if I were still playing in these zones I would just be doing the same mindless kill x things or click y things ad nauseam when all I really miss is the music.

Except I can just listen to the soundtracks instead while doing more productive anything.

Horde were concerned with Rend Blackhand and the 'Fake Horde' that had taken up residence in Blackrock Mountain. They also knew that if they were allowed to steamroll the continent they would be next.

Ultima Online, Runescape, Guild Wars are like this. Though slightly more item dependant these days.

Don't care about these dumb reskins, they need to introduce actually interesting races like Naga or a Third Faction with it's own slew of races.

Black Rock is real Horde, the new playable horde is the fake horde.

The alliance is accepting nigger dwarves because the princess of Ironforge got knocked up by one. This is not a joke.
