Why do Japs not see what made the first Resident evil games so good?

Evil Within is a clear attempt in making a Resi 4 clone

How hard is it to understand that we want a connected world with puzzles to solve, different monsters to fight and not have a fixed view anymore but rather a third person view the only reason why resident evil 4 was liked btw

While playing EW i kept wishing it was more like the old school Resi games.

These over the shoulder camera angles are for pew pew over the shoulder shooters. Not tension filled horror games with occasional monsters and puzzles. I just remember the environments so much better. The RE mansion, the RE2 police station, the SH school. [spoilers]Or maybe it's just nostalgia[/spoiler]

Hate to break it to you, but Resident Evil 4 had a fixed camera as well. The camera was fixed to directly behind Leon's shoulder,never leaving that position and never allowing you to move it without first rotating Leon. Compare that to something like MGS3 where you can rotate the camera to look directly behind Snake, etc.

And RE4 wasn't good for its camera, it was good for figuring out that aiming was the key mechanic of the game. Almost every enemy or challenge in the game revolves around some sort of aiming, be it weak points, target practice, etc. Every important mechanic of RE4 comes out of or is affected by those aiming mechanics, which is why the game feels so deep, despite being simple on paper. Given any distinctly unique (and therefore memorable) game, there's one thing that ties it all together.

Rolling in Katamari, catching monsters in Pokemon, chaining tricks in Tony Hawk's, or they style meter in DMC, are all good examples of this. Copying any of these mechanics would leave people to criticize it a clone of the other game.

The thing Mikami et al. don't realize is that the game needed to find one thing that defined it and expand off that one thing. The Evil Within doesn't have one because the developers weren't thinking about gameplay, they just thought about copying RE4. Predictably, it turned into a turd.

Evil Within was shit in my oppinion.

It was not horror it was just gore to get the 13 year old boys excited for playing muh hardcore bloody gaym.

The original Resident Evil games were not about the horror either. Their appeal was that you had to manage your ressources, try to not get eaten by enemies because the controls and movements were so shitty, one error results in losing tons of health and then offloading your big guns at the main bosses.
