8/10 very solid if dated action platformer, has some very nifty acrobatics and gravity shenanigans, amazing OC music

>Strider 2 genesis

1/10 trash made by murricans to cash in on the franchise

7/10 one of the best metroidvanias before metrodvania became a word

>Cannon-Dancer/Osman

9/10 first true sequel and huge improvement over the original Strider sporting brand new trippy story and characters

Worth noting that japanese and american versions have completely different stories, but both trippy thanks to game's visuals. You fight giant women and shit.

As is, these games had like 20x more content than the vast majority of console games of the same era. I easily spent 200 hours on PSP2 and that doubled with Infinity. I can only think of three things about these games that would have improved by not being on a handheld.

1 - camera controls.

2 - internet stability.

3 - framerate.

Game is on par with Cannon-Dancer and it was basically the only way to experience Osman for a time since Osman never came out on consoles

So can Osman though if you know what you're doing. Those old arcade games can be very short if you master them. The reason Strider 1 seems longer than Strider 2 is due to S1 having far less speed and being a bit clunky.

Moon Diver is basically the Koichi Yotsui, the guy who made Strider 1 and Osman teaming up with feelplus to make a Square Enix game and that was Moon Diver. It's ok, it came out during the "Semi Retro revival" phase in the PS360 era where Thexder Neo and Hard Corps Uprising came out as well except they didn't bother making it for portables as well since these kind of games would benefit from portability as much as they benefit from couch co-op.

Strider 2 was flashy and slick, but it was too short and too easy. I honestly prefer the original.

That said, where to you think the franchise should go from here in a hypothetical new Strider? Should they have a return to form and have linear levels, with all the variety of locales they allow for? Or should they go for another metroidvania? Where would they even set it, now that Kazakh has been done?

That id is a blessing of dubs and quads, truly ascended.

They can do whatever they please honestly, the whole deal with Strider is that Hiryu is just one of the many top Striders, he can go on as many adventures as he wants as long as evil exists and employers pay him money, he could be Capcom's Samus if he please and do whatever.

It was ok but I honestly prefer Moon Diver. The idea isn't bad but Strider having that western vidya feel ruined the experience more than anything else. If Capcom bothered with having say, the EX Troopers guys make the HD Strider with the classic comic panel aesthetic and have some more movement options and movement attacking options to compensate for the lack of 2's flash, speed and speedrunning aspect and it'd be a lot better and it'd mitigate the charging that looks jank.
