So nice reminder Aya Brea is dead and gone.

>Japanese novel Parasite Eve released in 1995 by Hideaki Sena

>For some reason Squaresoft, while looking for ideas to prototype their new engine for FF7 after canning the N64 version for the new multi-disc Sony Playstation release pick up the rights to the book and make a sequel to it.

>Set in the christmas weekend of 1998 the neo mitochondrian lifeform Eve from the novel has infected another young woman who is now turning all of manhattans life into monsters are their Mitochonrdia takes control of their DNA.

>Is a blend of survival horror and jrpg, tried by other games like Koudelka but was much more popular for at the time amazing music, cutscenes and gameplay.

>To cash in on the RE craze PE2 became an RE clone thats okay till its final 'the formula says we need a secret lab' section shits the bed

>plan for a 10th anniversary game

>realise the IP rights were only for ten years. fug

>ps3 sequel canned and turned into a psp 3rd person shooter which they literally can no longer legally call parasite eve so its called 'the third birthday' instead

>is a hard reboot to distance itself from the copyrighted IP

>also bruteforced some lightning bullshit in it.

>came out 2 years late and is a creative mess

>ip now dead forever

>cannot rerelease the originals because they dont own the rights to all the novel tie in shit

>beloved game is now stuck in the past on retro hardware or emulation forever with no sequels or even a spiritual successor beyond vagrant story expanding on the gameplay.

Do you still care about Aya?

IIRC, Square was just licensing the Parasite Eve property - and they lost the rights to it between PE 2 and 3rd Birthday, so third birthday ended up being a "not-really-Parasite Eve" game, which… surprise… the fans didn't really want.

>If i say it on /v/ it becomes fact.

I don't know if you are actually lying or just making shit up like a sociopathic narcissist but save the disinfo for /pol/ m8.

PE3 was made purely because Post Crisis Core Nomura wanted to make a 'new Aya Brea' game for the ips anniversary. Originally it was to be an episodic mobile game distributed only in japan like the FF7 spin off games they got.

Instead it was reworked for the PSP after hiring on some Lost Planet devs to make Dirge of Cerberus who were looking to make another third person shooter for square.

The game was made with two ideas in mind "new york should be snowy" and "i want to see aya in a bloody wedding dress" they had no concrete ideas and are on record saying '2 wrapped up the story'.

Then they discovered they lost the rights and it became a story in an alt universe about another character just called 'aya' based on the little sister from PE that was a secret boss and not considered 'canon' and the whole game is about body jumping and secret conspiracies and has gears of war cover shooting with lock on shooting. It was a bad game and got forgotten.

There was no 'fan demand' for more until the first became a cult hit around the 2010's and the biggest complaint was the extreme personality change for all the characters. Your entire post is bunkum and horseshit.

From what I read, The 3rd Birthday was designed to do three things:

>1. Reimage the Parasite Eve series so that SquarEnix can continue it

<See Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed

>2. Continue/expand the story already established in the book, film, and the previous two games

>3. Bring newcomers into the series

<The one point that always results in failure

On top of that, none of the people in charge of the game actually had any involvement in the prior two titles (In fact, all of them were coming off of the FF and KH series). And, Nomura….

I still care about the games. Parasites Eve 1&2 are really good games, but did not stand the test of time. Everything feels clunky and unintuitive to the point of frustration, but if you can get over that, the games are as good as ever.

Unlike most people, I actually really liked 3rd Birthday. The apocalyptic existential horror just worked for me. The campaign really felt like a futile battle for already lost cause, to save a lost world. Everyone shits on 3rdBD, I cannot see why. Some mechanics suck dick, but it's not a bad game.

Because the mechanics are shit for a PSP game. It's the reason Metroid Prime is utter shit on game cube but is fixed on the Trilogy, the controls aren't fit for what's happening.

If the PSP had two analogs it could work but it doesn't. It doesn't help that it has some of the late 00s SE leveling masturbation with damage sponges as enemies that frustrating. And the Overdrive emchanic was udnerwhelming by the end.

Ok, fair points. But isn't the 3rdBD supposed to be a spinoff of sorts? If the game would be called PE3, that would be pretty fucking bad, since it's nothing like the original games.

I don't know if it was meant to be a sequel or a spinoff, but everything points to the latter.

I have always thought that the campy writing, shooter gameplay and stripped RPG mechanics are because it is not Parasite Eve3, but a action heavy spinoff. Maybe that is why I could enjoy it for what it is. I mostly play really old games, so clunky one analog PSP controls don't bother me that much.

How? I jumped right into the first game last year, being ignorant at the time and hating the entire RPG genre, and I found it to be a wonderful game. Actually, it made me wonder why I haven't seen anything since then attempt to repeat that gameplay. Haven't played the second so I cannot give an opinion on that, though.

That isn't really saying much since the environments in the first game were JPG images, but, still, you have games like Silent Hill which were developed in smaller budgets and with tighter constraints.

I play some older games myself, Anon, but…

<(First pic)…that doesn't excuse porting a game to the PSP, assigning the camera to the D-Pad, leaving the character controls assigned to the thumbstick, and having the camera reset behind the character every three seconds right after you get it at just the right angle.

I'm not sure if 3rd Birthday allows it, but the optimal controls when it comes to a TPS/FPS control scheme for systems such as the PSP, 3DS, and Dreamcast is to assign the camera to the D-pad and character movement to the control stick (Which just about every third-person title on the 3DS does do if you don't use the touch screen) or reverse it and require the player to learn how Southpaw controls work (Which is the option both Rainbow Six games took on the Dreamcast).

Think how amazing it would have been if PE3 would have been done side to side with RE4. So that it could have been made in more serious in tone, since RE4 was more parody, PE3 could have stayed fully weird/bodyhorror.

I'm curious why you think this as while Prime 3 works with the wii-mote. Prime 1&2 don't additionally benefit because the games weren't designed with free-aiming in mind. I don't think I've ever heard a complaint about the GC Prime games controls outside of maybe issues with lockon.

They are very solid controls given the lack of a second analog stick to aim yourself and instead having to use R+Left Control.

While both the first and second games are stellar, for me PE2 edges out the first due to great replay value. Need to beat the game two more times to get the last two ranks for all the bonus items. I love all the settings, Arkopolis Tower, Dryfield (Comfy desert aesthetic), and the Shelter/Neo Ark. Weapons actually feel good to shoot, and have lots of variety, especially due to different ammo types. The OST, while not as thematic as the first game, really nails the atmosphere. They essentially stole the third game's story, characters/settings etc. when they released it with minor edits after losing the rights resulting in the author of the books denying them ever using the IP again. Basically they kiked themselves out of them. Also, if Squeenix ever accuses you of copyright theft if you get caught pirating anything of theirs, just change the title of the game's exe, that should be sufficient to meet their moral standings on the subject.

Needless to say, he just looks goofy but the students like it and since he's the typical tryhard lovable goof, he has a rivalry with Class Zero since they are now top dog.

>And Nomura…

>Implying

That's Toriyama, the slightly less successful Nomura Considering they both highjacked the company from under their predecessor's feet by ass kissing . If you're going to hate him, do it honestly Raziel

I thought the 1st title was top 5 PS1 game. I thought the 2nd title was a step in an unnecessary step into a Capcom direction but I liked the game nonetheless. I never played the third because it was largely panned and mercilessly mocked on /v/.

Is there ever a future for this franchise other than a sure successful Parasite Eve 1 & 2 remaster combo?

if squeenix had a brain in their head i'd say PE definitely had a future, because really it's just one well-written RE4 clone away from being relevant again. but since it's square all we're ever going to get are sad reminders and maybe, if we're really unlucky, some mobileshit or a cameo in FFXVI or something

Even though 3rd Birthday didn't follow the model for older games it was pretty good for a hand held, weapon swapping was really fluid and fun.

Official English script of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. Thankfully the fan-translation of the original PSP version exists and was released just before Square tried to hit the guys with a C&D because they smelled blood in the water and wanted some shekels with an HD release that they'd bring west this time.

Funny thing is that, if you're unaware, Moogles have had a long standing gender neutral pronoun (at least in the western scripts for the games prior), "Mog", so the change to "ze zi zo zum" tier ones screams of a tumblr script editor making changes of their own.
