859c3a No.14574141

Started playing this recently, am I the only one who thinks that hunting for starts isn't really that fun? I love playing with the puzzles presented in the singular rooms, but no matter how pretty the locations I go into are, I get really irritated having to traverse them ten times in search of missing star. The game itself is really fun, but I honestly would prefer to just ignore the stars, is there any penalty for not collecting them all? Worse ending or something like that.

Also, general Talos Prinicple thread.

Stars are actually the best aspect of this game as some of them are actually challenging.

You can ignore the stars. You'll be missing out on a different ending, but you can always collect all the stars at the end instead.

I like (most of) the star puzzles because they show off the beauty of the level design and force you to break the game rules you thought were set in stone. Pretty ironic given the ending for getting 100% star collection. Some of them are complete bullshit, like that one laser transmitter in the tree you can barely see, but most of them are fair. Be prepared for lateral thinking.

The only useless part of this game is unlocking the messengers. Wow, 15-30 minutes of slider puzzles to get one free hint that probably won't help you solve the puzzle. Who fucking cares?

Collecting the stars gets you small bonus levels and an extra mini ending, probably about 40 seconds long, which also earns you dark souls soapstone functionality (only sends to people on your friends list). That part's irrelevant now though, unless any of your Steam friends will happen to be playing this game at some point in the future. Play the extra levels if you want, but the ending really isn't worth it- because some of those stars are seriously just straight bullshit. In fact, there's probably one in particular, on the first world's water level right? You may as well not even fucking try without looking up a guide

Ah shit, I didn't realise this thread was on page 10. Sorry everyone

Collecting the stars does get you an ending, but it's not the "TRUE ENDING", so you're not missing much except for some good ass gameplay.

The stars are only bullshit in the expansion. I had fun collection them in the main game but in the expansion they start getting infuriating.

I'm waiting for the VR version to go on sale so I can snag the entire Croteam VR line of games.

I like the stars. They're either neat puzzles that don't follow the same formula as the standard puzzles, or they make you use the standard puzzles together, in interesting ways. What I hate are the tetronimo puzzles. They don't fit into the game at all. They're especially infuriating if you try unlocking the messengers that >>14574407 and >>14575367 mention.
