You can buy and trade skins to csgo, pubg, etc, and people have tons of money wrapped up in it. Some do well. I was just doing it to get my kids skins and cheap games for their steamlink. You can mine for the currency etc places like csgo-coins and collectskins

It shouldn't change anything unless you were somehow relying on those third party skin websites for some ungodly reason. Valve gets money from sales on the Market and opening crates. Trades between players(including tradebots) earn them nothing, so this is clearly a move to eliminate the third party shit that use the Steam API and automated player trades to generate profit.

People don't actually buy skins for the skin itself, rather they buy it, and other microtransaction items for the hope of selling it for a higher price. I suppose what Valve did was cause a crash in those prices, so the people who bought an item wanting to sell it higher, can't anymore or for the time being and essentially lost money.
