Yes, option selects, 1-frame links and vortex were mostly removed, but they also took whiff punishing, footsies and different character playstyles. They made offensive play the only strategy for every character and made every situation more advantageous to the aggressor rather than the defensive player. In SF4 you could play your character the way you wanted and you could still win, in SF5, you're forced to play one way since characters are extremely simple compared to what they were in SF4.
SF4 had a lot of problems, but you could still play neutral and negate everything bad that the game had. If you were a good enough player you could keep your opponent out for the whole match and win. Meanwhile in SF5 you're always in your opponents face, always.
They removed patient, methodical and thoughtful play for fuck you I'm in your face, guess grab or meaty.
