I can pop in pretty much any previous God of War game, ignore the story, and just play - and will have full access to the bulk of the gameplay experience pretty much immediately.

Nu-God of War is going to be a narrative focused with gameplay begrudgingly added in as sparingly as needed. So not only would it not be worth going back to and replaying, you can't just jump in and enjoy an hour or two because you're going to be expected to follow an overly scripted narrative that you don't give a shit about. It's like trying to just jump into the second disk of FFVII and play for an hour or two. Nobody fucking does that, because the gameplay is shit, and unless you're going for the full 60~80 hour grand tour - it's not even worth starting.

I've already pretty much written this game off. I'm sure it's going to be okay as graphically competent clone of The Last of Us with some mythology as background dressing but. Everything about it just seems generic and overdone. Every trailer reminds me of some type of made-for-tv movie period from the 90s like Dinotopia or some crap like that. Honestly the idea of making GoW taking some combat influence from Dark Souls isn't a bad one. I've only played one of the games and for not very long, but the combat was so risk-free and button-mashy with a sprinkling of QTEs that it just fucking bored me. Ninja Gaiden at least made me have to put forth effort to win and if I fucked up I got killed, but I never got any sense of genuine threat from GoW. I could always just avoid all attacks and could always just smash stuff up to get health back after I stopped bothering to dodge.

Kratos was formerly a good family man to his wife and daughter, felt a fatherly connection over Pandora in 3, and had a crap father to deal with. The themes of family are heavily present in this series, and I believe that this is what will establish his motivation to be good father and raise a kid in 4. No Greek-related characters will return (apart from maybe Athena), but it's pretty easy to predict how 4's story will play out.

Reminder that Kratos even was a good son to his mother and he was a good elder brother as well, he even refused to hit Deimos twice and Deimos slugged him really good and given how Kratos reacts to those who even touch him…

Hell, even in the original plan for GoW2 with Deimos being the personification of chaos, even then when they presented Kratos as "that rough violent kid" he seemed heartbroken over the others taking away Deimos and screeched autistically. Of course all this is moot since >>14582108 because the way the clips are shown here is that Kratos has "matured and has to atone for what he did to his family" when the entire first game was that thing exactly, except he's a moron and his autistic brain thought of killing Ares would cleanse him of his crimes as if he was the MC of Orestes or Electra or (insert Greek tragedy here) or some shit.
