What games have you played for the first time in the last 12 months that you weren't expecting to enjoy so much (and why)? Pic related
>Blown away tier - girl of your dreams for some reason wants to be your 3dpd and is addicted to blowjobs
Factorio. Expected something like Startopia or Rollercoaster Tycoon. Got an absolutely phenomenal autism simulator with exactly the amount of depth and content to make the first 30 hour playthrough an utterly exquisite experience
Hollow knight. Expected a short, unpolished indie metroidvania with an interesting artstyle. Got an immense game that continuously provided rock solid content with a huge diverse gameworld, great combat system and soundtrack. Game was 30 hours when I was expecting 5.
>Delightfully unexpected tier - Unknown relative dies and bequeaths you $1,000
Spacechem - tried this since people were making noise about Opus Magnum so wanted to play previous game first. It's an exceptionally well crafted puzzle / programming type game that I was sceptical I'd enjoy but ended up throwing a huge amount of time into the campaign and enormously generous community produced end game content.
>Good luck tier - You have a massive night out and the barman forgets to charge your tab for anything past 9pm
Into the breach - Simple to understand but quite challenging and deep tactics game, akin to chess. Minimal RNG. Was quite impressed how much content and value could be extracted from such a simple but well executed premise.
>Pleasant surprise tier - You find $10 in an old jacket you haven't worn for a while
Celeste - Came out of nowhere. Solid, challenging, responsive platformer with decent variety, awesome soundtrack and far, far more content than I was expecting. Plot is unnecessary but skippable.
