A duel-style bullet hell shmup about flying little girls. In a lot of ways an improvement over the first gauging from the open beta, given that the port isn't handled by complete jackasses this time around and the netcode is actually quite responsive. Also to be released within 20 hours.

A shmup about becoming the final boss. After each stage you get to pick between two new weapons, such as backward shot, homing lasers, full frontal lasers, diagonal lasers, big bombs, and giant drills, and the following stages do a great job of incorporating your new weapons, giving the game a whole lot of variety as it changes up its gameplay every stages as your ship evolves. The presentation also stands out with its limited color palette and tons of shit going on in the background. There is already a full demo of an early release of the game containing all planned stages on the developer's site (https://se-made.com/finalboss.html), though the game name's googlability is fucking awful.
>Overload
A Kickstarter-funded spiritual successor to the Descent games developed by the original creators, except this time around the game isn't a mediocre imitation or a nostalgia cash-in and actually aims to improve on the existing foundation. For example, hitscan enemies are entirely absent as each enemy is projectile-based, and the enemy types in Overload most similar to the hitscan enemies of Descent (fucking Class 1 Drillers fucking FUCKS) will only attack when they're in close range instead of sniping you like a cunt across the entire map, on top of not being 100% accurate. There's nothing like the dickass red hulks with their anal homing missiles either, the closest variant here are enemies which fire slow-moving homing mines. In Overload, Robot Generators are actually destructible so they won't be triggered each time you enter a room and spawn an inevitable wave of enemies. Though sometimes these generators are protected by impenetrable shields which need to be disabled by shooting a nearby switch first. You also have something akin to a melee attack now, so you can actually ram into enemies to stun them and deal damage, doing so also restores your shields a little.
The Early Access version comes with some singleplayer levels, and they're actually good, making this one of the few soon-to-be-released FPS games in YEARS to actually feature a good singleplayer campaign in the vein of classic first-person shooters (in this case in the style of Descent) without the bullshit of roguelites and lolhordes. Much like in Descent, levels are sprawling labyrinths which can spread out in any direction, feature tricky enemy compositions and a general high amount of secrets. Enemy AI is still highly competent as they can dodge your shots and lead their shots, and enemy behavior varies between types as some will rush you aggressively or fire while retreating in order to harass you from long range. They can even react to your flashlight like in FEAR. Weapon balance is quite strong while introducing some new weapons, like a weapon which shoots bouncing projectiles which can home into enemies after a bounce, a time bomb which slows down time, a proper shotgun weapon, and a fast-firing missile pod. There is some decline in the form of an upgrade system, but it's done rather tastefully here as there a multiple upgrade variants for each weapon which are all equally useful, and the upgrading is solely done inbetween levels so you don't have to constantly pause to look at menus.
It's coming this May/June, and it's also coming with a multiplayer mode on release.

I can't tell you how many hours I spent playing the Redqueen maps on Killing Floor and Zombie Master Source.

I got some hopes for the upcoming nuPrey expansion late in this year if teasers on Twitter and the scheduling behind the expansion of Dishonored 2 last year is any indication. The developers mentioned in an interview how they cut out a lot of shit like limiting the amount of items you can fabricate, oxygen management in outer space, a whole bunch of status ailment, and weapon degradation, and that they were planning to reintroduce all of that in a later patch. I want to shill it all over the rooftops after having played it, I genuinely believe it's going to be the best addition to the FPS genre in years, managing to stay true to the originals while still improving on the original concept. Especially with this incoming wave of retro FPS throwbacks like DUSK, Ion Maiden, Amid Evil and Hellbound (all of which are coincidentally also in Early Access) I believe Overload is going to be the best one out of all of them, though it's probably going to receive the least attention since the devs can't into PR and Descent doesn't hold that much nostalgia (or faux-nostalgia) for modern journalists and other poseurs.
Then again, when people talk about old-school first-person shooters they talk about Doom, Quake, Unreal, and the Build Engine games, but nobody really cared that much about Descent 1 and 2 despite how good those games were. It's borderline criminal.

Oh man, I've been so out of touch with new releases recently. I used to get really excited about new releases and know everything.
I guess Ace Combat 7, Wargroove, Wonderful Dizzy, A Way Out, Kingdom Hearts 3, Battalion 1944, Ni no Kuni 2, Yakuza possibly Scorn and Metro. Maybe some others I haven't seen much of yet.
My friends are mostly normalfags so I'm sure I'll play some of the others on their systems anyway. The new David Cage movie might be funny to 'play' with them.

If we're talking about Retro FPS two I'm waiting for that aren't as well known are Arthurian Legends (vid related) and Project Warlock: https://twitter.com/bckshtsoftware?lang=en. The former seems more promising though it seems to be further along in development, the visual style of PW is pretty cool though but sadly it's made in Unity.
Besides that I'm looking forward to any more progress with Exanima, the most recent update is open to Beta testers but isn't public yet. It seems like it should be finished this year and work on Sui Generis will start or maybe not. Noita also looks really neat: https://noitagame.com/ though won't necessarily be out this year.

It doesn't look very good, the pacing is bad, the music might be metal but the non fight music doesn't flow into the fight music well and it's jarring, the enemies seem very slow, there's absolutely no reason to have that cluttered hud at 1920x1080. The level design isn't vertical at all and is made up of isolated rooms filled with obstacles instead of complex geometry made up of intersecting rooms. Enemy placement is mind numbing >open door, +back while shooting things chasing you.
