the irony in distorted VHS meme is that VHS only became distorted after years of use, usually by the 90s and 2000s. Quality varies by brand really. I think a visual aesthetic better defining of the era is visible in the greys and red of your image, where the details are sharp as possible but you can see a grained distortion on colors, some more visible than others. If you're not quite sure what I'm talking about, watch any film from the pre-digital era of recording and mastering and provided your copy is high resolution enough, you'll see a grainy image. To me this is a defining quality that jives well with the utmost professional quality in analog equipment of the era. If you look at films today they're far too clean. I personally find that those little dots make what you're seeing feel all the more real, as when I look around it's what my eyes pick up looking at just about anything.
