This is why some of the worst entertainment practices comes from Japan, their courts don't have juries and can easily be rigged since there are very few people involved and no element of randomness. The Yakuza are heavily involved in rigging shit like that.
American courts hand limited power to the government workers and the people who decide jury duty are rotated heavily. The judge doesn't have all the power and is more of an arbitrator and as a result bribing his ass doesn't guarantee a court win, and the cases on high have MULTIPLE judges ie the Supreme Court and you're super fucked if you managed to get sent up there because of that if you did some stupid shit.
the Japanese court has three dudes in a fucking room along with the defendants. Kidnap someone's kid or bribe them, it doesn't even take a neighborhood gang much to pull off a court rigging. The japanese justice system is far beyond fucked up even compared to the prison megacomplex that is America.
If you've played through Phoenix Wright the court system used there isn't actually that far off from the actual Japanese court system, and one case in the fourth game the protag's mentor has to pull some mega strings by implementing a test jury system last minute to fuck up a murderer that successfully covered up all evidence. Because the Japanese court system is apparently lacking in fucking common sense to spot a blatant criminal.
The police are fucked, the court is fucked, and the only solution is "keep your head down" and organized crime like the Yakuza use it as a bludgeon. I'm not sure if they finally adopted a jury system because I haven't checked in a few years, but as it is I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind it prevented that from happening.
When it comes to the actual justice system, America is fucking impenetrable and any sway you might have over individual parts won't apply in other areas, which is why visible organized crime in America has never gone beyond a city after the Great Depression and is generally limited to deep state or Crips/Bloods neighboorhood dealer gang war.
