I tried emulating it today and I've been playing for hours expecting it to get better but it just hasn't. I finished the 3rd dungeon and can't tolerate this anymore. The dungeons are just straight lines, there is only ever one room you can go into and pick up a key to the next room right there, the puzzles aren't really puzzles, they are ultra simplistic requests by the game, i.e. "wave leaf at this to unlock chest." Everyone complains about the sailing being shit but the rest of the game is so boring I haven't even noticed yet. At least the graphics and music are cute I guess. Does it get better, or are the normies just overrating this game?

Zelda's one of those franchises where it's only at it's best if it's making some deviation from the formula, or not developed by Nintendo. TP is an exception because it has some really good moments that make it likeable, like the second phase of the skeleton boss where you use the Spinner, possessing shit in the Temple of Time, the mountain house dungeon, and in particular, the Zant fight, but it's one of the weaker on that list for a lot of reasons.
A lot of the critically acclaimed Zelda games I fucking abhor. OoT was a boring shitfest, LttP had a schizophrenic design, WW took the few fun things from OoT and sucked what little fun was left out of them, SS was Simon Says plus everything bad about TP, plus it introduced that fucking detestable stamina wheel. The only game I haven't given a proper chance is the original, but I don't know if that's critically anything other than doing Hydlide done right so I won't split hairs about it.
Bottom line: mainline regurgitated Link to the Past Zelda is fucking trash, and the formula wore out its welcome so badly that the terribly flawed Breath of the Wild managed to be a breath of fresh air and good ideas for the series. I'm willing to be unpopular on this, but my opinion is the right one. When the bread and butter overly-rehashed formula of your series manages to get outdone by

Wind Waker is boring. I remember when the GameCube was still the current gen people would rip WW a new asshole all the time, and for good reason. Somehow over time WW has gotten the reputation of being a masterpiece. It's not. I guess the people getting wet over it today were children when it came out and your first one is always the best one, while those where were disappointed by WW moved on.
The sailing is easily the worst offender, but as you have noticed the payoff for putting up with it is not worth it. It won't get any better either, so just save your time. If you keep playing you will have do the Triforce quest: There is a number of Triforce pieces scattered through the world and you have to collect them all. Now you might think that each one is a sort of quest, but nope. Instead you get a map that shows you the location of treasure maps. You go get the map, but then you have to pay Tingle an absurd some to decode it. So you go grind for money, fly over to his place and pay him to get a deciphered map. Now to take your boat to the place on the map and fish for the piece. Repeat the process for each single piece. So fucking tedious
You could cut this shit out of the game and you wouldn't be missing out on anything. You would shave off several hours of "gameplay".

Wind Waker's ocean was like a prototype of the entirety of BotW - both are comfy for a bit, until you realize there's nothing to do in them, WW especially.
