well it had a story mode which mostly consisted of running in the village and in the forest and then battle enemies. Don't know about the monster in a cave thing. Played it last time in 2008 or something.

characters felt like they had more depth and uniqueness to them in the 2d games, they had all sorts of different buffs ,modes, and special properties for their attacks that gave the game more complexity than you'd expect from licensed game.

I loved the original Ultimate Ninja series, the classics are the classics. But once Ninja Storm came around, I felt like it had lost its way.
Road to Boruto is undeniably the most 'comprehensive', but pic related is my personal fave.

I was the only one with a PS2, so like 10 people turned to play, we had mini torneys and stuff so everyone could had a chance to play, it was nuts. I was a slut for the portable titles, I think i beat ninja council 1 like 20 times because my bootleg flashkart kept wiping my save file. The PSP and DS ones were suer fun too. I didn't even watch naruto that much i just loved the aesthetic in the games.

No one is saying Naruto was a good series and the blatant retcons and retarded plot twists in the manga alone show this jarringly over its lifespan.
