For no reason in particular I feel like going on a downer binge. Give me the grimmest, saddest, most soul-crushingly depressing games you can name. I'll play them. Feel free to discuss the nature of pathos in videogames and general philosophical quandaries or whatever while you're at it.

Don't let Turgor play second fiddle to Pathologic, either, it's equally dark. Maybe it feels less so since there are moments of beauty as well, but it shares the same theme of confronting mortality.

I'd say Condemned 1 and 2. You might think it's a strange choice, but the games never let up from being dark and gritty for even a goddamn second. Hours and hours of just brutally beating deranged bums' heads in while roaming dilapidated shitholes and crime scenes without so much as a dark joke thrown in. All the abandoned places really just remind me of the city I live in, so it really depresses me.

It's not a video game in itself, but if you haven't listened to The Protomen's first album, it's an excellent 37-minute quick-fix philosophical grimdark mega-downer. Even if it's not your style of music, I recommend trying to finish it for the story.
Reading the lyrics is mandatory, because there's story in them that you're meant to read alongside the music.

I just replayed Silent Hill 2 all decked out on PC and it was great. There were a couple graphical glitches here and there but not enough to hamper my enjoyment. It looks so fucking good. Much better than running it off a PS2 and ironically much better than the HD Collection even when that game isn't taking a shit performance wise and/or on the original art.
If anyone has the PC Silent Hill guides post it.
As a sidenote I'm sad the steam machine concept is always looked down upon. It was great playing this from a small PC under my 55 inch television with a PS2 controller. But it seems anytime that concept is brought up you get pure unbridled autism from "real gamers" and of course they didn't sell well anyway. Just seems weird I'm the only person that likes this.

It's a miserably shitty game about two ugly, horrible people who ruin everything they go near. Everything that goes wrong in their lives is entirely their own fault. Play it drunk or sick, leave the camera-bob on. By the time you get to the big climax point you'll want to either kill yourself or kill them. There is no satisfaction to be had anywhere in this mess.
It fucking sucks, I loved it.

The exterior windows in the apartments were solid white.
Eddie turned into a black square for about a second during his death animation (spoilers!).
The Windows in Room 312 had glowing white lines around some of the wood but only while it was playing the cutscene with Laura (not the pre-render, the in-engine).
Nothing huge and much better than the HD Collection, hooking a PS2 up to a monitor display, or (in my experience) playing with PCSX2.
