I think the Mario Kart team is the ARMS team (or at least has Yubuki as the producer of both and some staff overlap). They probably had a smaller team fix up/port over MK8 Wii U to become MK8D Switch while the rest of them worked on creating the fighting game prototype that would use the Joy-Cons and became ARMS.

Because games that receive updates and new content after they're released aren't really getting new content, it was content planned beforehand and allocated for. Think of it less like post release content, and more like the game is Early Access.
Best example is Paradox games. They have a short dev span and receive loads of updates and DLC after they're released.

Mario Kart 8 is different.
The only real issue with Amiibo is it's incorrect handling, Breath of the Wild is mostly fine, it's mostly cosmetic outfits although it should have been limited to alternative version of outfits like the Tunics and the Sheikah headgear, Epona was fine, the Wolf Link shouldn't have locked off the Wolf dungeon in Twilight Princess, and you should have been able to tame a Wolf in Breath of the Wild, but the Wolf Link Amiibo should have given you Wolf Link specifically as well as allowing you to boost it's hearts based on your end heart score in the Wolf Link Dungeon, The cosmetic outfits that are locked away in Mario Kart 8 are fine too,

ARMS is barely a fighting game, and it's easy to pick up. You'll figure it out. Most likely, avoid using joycons - it's fun as fuck, but being able to aim and win is much more fun.
Be aggressive. Every near-miss that scrapes your opponent's arms gets you closer to disabling and punishing them.
At the same time, stay mobile, it's better to get around an attack and retaliate than to play rock-paper-scissors. Don't jump unless you need to or your character benefits from it (like Kid Cobra or Ribbon Girl) because if your opponent's paying attention you'll just get bopped when you land.
Like >>14026979 said don't throw out both hands. There's a time and a place but usually it just slows you down and leaves you open to counter attack. It's particularly bad when kiddies toss out a Dragon and give you an hour to retaliate.
I really wanted to fight my way through Ranked but it pretty much died by the time I was ready. Has the game gotten any more life injected into it? Last I played was the Spring Man VS Ribbon Girl event.

Am I the only person who has more trouble using the analogue stick than aiming the joycons? I mean, first off, you can't control both arms simultaneously with the stick, or punch in one direction and walk in the other, so there is a direct disadvantage. I just do not have a problem rotating my wrists to steer, and I really do not get why it is treated as a fact that using "traditional" controls is better when there is a real, factual downside to them.

This may just be me, but I actually had more trouble punching straight ahead with joycons. Curving's easy enough but for some reason my punches would always veer to the side.
If you can handle the joycons then power to you, but the benefits aren't all that great - you have to dash to move when punching anyway, so it's a simple flick of the stick to get moving.
