What are some final bosses/battles that have good build-up to them? Pic probably not related.

3a72c1 No.14021343

Build up how? A story throughout the entire game? The approach to the final boss?

772f5c No.14021357

Alduin, his boss fight in Skyrim was great, and he was built up over the course of the game.

Can't wait to see what fighting him is like in VR!

Idk if this is cuckchan or todd, but that was one of the lamest final boss fights I've ever seen. Just a carbon copy of every other dragon you fought in the game. I expected him to be at least shadow of the colossus sized but no. I think he was actually smaller than the normal dragons.

Most recurring bosses tend to be built up pretty well.

>fight

>get your ass kicked

>get your chance to run it back when you're stronger

or

>fight

>kick their ass

>they come back with some "I'm not as weak as you remember" line

>a galaxy fucking explodes and you get sucked into the explosion

>some funky shit starts happening in the background

>ZONE NU: GENESIS

>it's the final boss slowly being born to the best songs in the game

>WARNING: A HUGE BATTLESHIP THE EMBRYON IS APPROACHING FAST

>this guy starts generating and shooting copies of the first boss in the game at you

>you have to take it down in a beam duel

>the explosion of the final boss' destruction causes you and your ship to slowly disintegrate, as you and the player 2 pilot hold eachother's hands and kiss eachother for the last time

this some Evangelion-level shit

>this some Evangelion-level shit

It certainly was about that pretentious. I don't think G-Darius could really pull it off like the goofy endings of previous games.

>travel through a hurricane until you reach the eye

>sink deep into the ocean depths until you reach the bottom

>fight through the jungle until you reach the canopy and a rainbow appears

Gaiden had some cool build-ups and entrances too.

>I think he was actually smaller than the normal dragons.

He wasn't and you know it. It's with this sort of dumb exaggeration we end up with actual skyim nostalgia threads five years down the line. Because all the valid criticism will have boiled down to kids trying to fit in without effort.

The final level of Gradius III is one of the most ridiculous endurance trials in all of vidya (tacked onto the end of an already extremely long single-sitting game). At nearly any point within it, a single mistake will result in a death that is impossible to recover from, effectively ending the game. In Gradius tradition, the final boss itself is really easy. At the end, he gives a speech. Perhaps a statement on the game itself?

Another shoutout to RayForce for being such a beautiful game.

>some AI takes over all systems on Earth and goes rampant, destroys 99.8 of the human population with the remnants fleeing into space and making Earth uninhabitable

>AI then decides to repopulate Earth and transform it into a massive battleship to hunt down the remaining humans

>the humans then send you on a final solo mission to penetrate the earth layer and blow the earth up entirely as a last ditch survival effort

>the whole game is one continuous journey to the core, never does it break up the progression with stage select screens or loading times

>you make your way from space all the way down to Earth, slipping into the surface cracks, making your way through the outer Megastructure, and then penetrating the deep layer

>in the seventh and final stage, the very Earth core is a never-ending scene of gray buildings and skyscrapers, built around the inside ring of the Earth and making it appear as if it curves inwards

>the music for this stage is slow and pensive in contrast to the peppy and tense tracks of the previous stages, and the game throws the most erratic enemy patterns at you yet as if they're throwing every last bit at you to prevent you from completing your mission

>at the end of the stage all enemies withdraw as you slowly make your way up the central tower, it being populated by a magnitude of background objects you can destroy for power-ups

>you're given a ridiculous amount of power-ups, meaning there's only one thing awaiting you

Some people think that good storytelling requires dialogue. But here's this shmup from 1994, carrying over that feeling of a journey being made solely through the progression of the visuals, music, and gameplay alone.

Darksiders when you fight the destroyer. That shit was read as absolute shit. Shame he was so effortless. It's still really good though.

Was getting ready to mention this one. The way the game so seamlessly transitions between levels with a logical progression makes basically the whole game build-up.

Your post reminded me of how awesome Raystorm's final boss is.

>descending into the bowels of a techno-planet

>ominous low drone that only reaches higher pitch until you destroy the couplings, and the music picks up

>the fear as the thing closes up around you to fire its ultimate weapon

>finally you destroy it, and you get to see the aftermath + small commentary on the fate of your enemy as sad piano music plays

THAT is how you end a game with class.

While not the real final boss, Grigori had an awesome build up to him.

>comes to your peaceful village to wreck shit up

>you are the only guy, but at lvl 1 and with a shit sword you do almost no damage to one of his many health bars

>he chuckles and steals your heart

>tells you that you have to defeat him, if you want to recover your heart

>you train hard, fighting all manners of beasts, from hydras, cyclops, griffons

>there's also a cult dedicated to the dragon, that you fight against

>they manage to invade a giant fortress

>so you go and take it back

>defeat all the minions and are about to face the leader of the cult

>suddenly the dragon appears and kills the cult leader, telling the player that the cult has nothing to do with this

>that the player has to defeat the dragon to stop all this

>he destroys the fortress effortlessly, steals your waifu to motivate you in fighting him

>you finally reach his place and he starts talking about free will and destines

>he offers you a choice, let him kill your waifu and he will leave the land in peace, as the "vanquisher of the dragon" the player will become king just like the current king did

>or you can face him, risking oblivion

>you defeat him, and reclaim your heart back

>the end of the world has come, as a consequence of the dragon dying
