When I was a little pipsqueak my brother forced me to play various RPGs so I can grind and level up his characters while he was at school so he didn't have to waste time doing it while he was at home. Since I was a dumb kid who didn't know any better I thought grinding and killing the same enemies over and over again was fun. Next thing I know and I'm beating Hitman Silent Assassin missions on Silent Assassin rank, and if anyone ever played that game they'd know how absolutely fucking frustrating that can be not because it's hard per se, but because some missions are glitchy and broken and one of them is so luck based that Silent Assassin rank can purely depend on whether an enemy is dumb enough to get run over by a truck or not.

Depends. Most anons don't realize how fucked kids are this generation. My little sister is growing up playing Minecraft on her phone unsurprisingly raised by a single mother , and she starts crying whenever she tries to play anything else, because it's too hard. She was traumatized by the first overworld of Spyro 2, never made it past the first four levels of Mario 64 and screeched autistically at the Forest Maze of Mario RPG. So if the kid actually plays games with a controller, it should be fine, though he might throw a hissy fit at the Guardians "TOTALLY RANDOMLY" killing him. But if he only plays shit on a phone, he will find it impossible.

Yeah, but weapons are abundant enough that this shouldn't be a problem, although I agree that they could've given you at least ONE default weapon that doesn't ever break, and that shit should've eventually been taken out of the equation via some kind of durability restoring item.
Anyway, the kid will figure it out on his own, consult a guide, or give up in frustration. If any of those things happen, then just let it be. Maybe he'll come back to the game when he's a bit older and conquer it. It's a good experience, to feel like something is insurmountable only to find out that your own limited knowledge is what was keeping you from success. It's a good life lesson; sometimes you're the problem, and you need to not only realize that but also find out how you can resolve the limitations that prevent you from success.

>they could've given you at least ONE default weapon that doesn't ever break
Then what? Having a weapon that doesn't do shit is no different from not having one at all, and not having one at all at least forces you to retreat. If you want an infinite, weak weapon as default, then the entire game has to be balanced harder to encourage you to find new weapons. Otherwise, you could just rush through the game with that weapon (which you can already do if you're good enough). Weapon durability is one of the core mechanics of the game, it's like saying Mario should be able to kill enemies by walking into them, or that Metroid should let you know where all the upgrades are.
If there's one well-designed aspect of BOTW, it's the durability. While fairly annoying, it encourages constant exploration, which is the main goal of the game.
>>14010881
>It seems even more complicated than botw tbh
Depends on what you mean by "complicated". There's deeper mechanics, sure, but the primary goals of the game (the moons or whatever) are distinct and fun to collect. There's a range of difficulties in each of the goals, with various challenges which keep the game fresh. Contrast that to BOTW, where you'll be repeating the same 4 or 5 challenges, over and over until you get a 100% completion. You aren't forced to get 100% completion in either game, but the 100% is a lot more obvious in Odyssey (oh there's that one I haven't gotten yet) compared to BOTW (fuck I have 499/500 turds collected where the fuck is the last one).
Odyssey appeals to imagination, BOTW appeals to autism.

It's really common, actually. Basically, some single mother lets the tablet raise her kid. Kid watches Minecraft let's players because that's what's popular on Jewtube. Kid finds silly man on screen talking in silly voices and making sounds funny. Kid plays same game on his smart device (TM) because that's what funny man does. Kid goes to kindergarten/school and tells other kids about funny game. Other kids try it, find funny man funny and play the game. No one wants to be left out so they all play the game and learn it, no matter how hard it might be. They get accustomed to the shitty smartphone controls. They then try to play with a controller, or god forbid a keyboard, and fail immediately because they've only played with a phone. And since there's no peer pressure to like anything other than Minecraft, they don't bother, and just play/watch Minecraft all day.

>if you want an infinite, weak weapon as default, then the entire game has to be balanced harder to encourage you to find new weapons.
I disagree, the game's damage calculation is very straightforward; all you have to do is give the player a weapon that only does a baseline amount of damage, and eventually they'll get to a point where they'll have to rely on random weapons that they pick up throughout the game because their base weapon will not do any damage. I think there should be two unbreakable weapons that basically have a damage cap; a default weapon that they give you at the beginning of the game, so you can start out with a reliable weapon that will allow you to always be able to defend yourself, and then the Master Sword, which should be an end game weapon that the player must work to acquire.
In this scenario, the baseline weapon will only be good up to a certain point in terms of combat capability, but it can be used as an axe to chop down trees and interact with objects in the world that would otherwise retract durability from more valuable weapons. Additionally, the player would still be required to pick up random weapons and rely on them for the majority of the game, but the end game would eliminate this necessity by introducing the Master Sword.
Weapon durability is one of the core mechanics of the game, it's like saying Mario should be able to kill enemies by walking into them, or that Metroid should let you know where all the upgrades are.
No, it's like saying that Mario shouldn't have a stamina bar that prevents him from moving. The game is all about moving, you're going to be moving constantly. If you introduce a stamina bar, it could theoretically work, but such an inclusion would add a pointless limitation to the system that wouldn't really contribute in any meaningful way unless the game were rebuilt to accommodate it.

I knew a few girls, who liked the Sims 1 and 2, when they were about 10-12 so that might be a good choice. Furthermore, considering how autistic some modern children are with controllers and keyboard, I would recommend emulating the GBA games, and playing them with touch controls(they might actually do better with the shitty touch controls, than with a normal controller or controller attachment).

Plus, it's really hard to run put of money since all you have to do is, do a few missions for the evil scientist(or whatever he was), sure you loose a bit of popularity, but that is easily gained back. My parents didn't seem to care enough to do something about it (notice a patern here?) and whenever I tried to get her to do something about it she would throw an autistic tantrum and my parents would call me cruel or something, completely ignoring the fact that she had no friends or social life and spent all her time playing a shitty video game. The interesting thing is that she never, not once, played survival mode. This was how I was introduced to "real" games. My dad used to play games like Diablo, Unreal, and Ultima after work. I would sit and watch him play, and act as a spotter for things. I also memorized where things were to a degree.
Besides that, I'd play old educational games that were targeted at kids, like Magic School Bus shit or the old DK games not Donkey Kong, the other DK. When I started getting older, I started playing more and more games. Mostly older stuff. The first game I played at release was Oblivion, actually. Which as you could imagine, made the game look really good at the time. What a lie. I remember playing co-op games on the PS2 a lot, and some MMOs as well.
Honestly, I think that's what missing with a lot of kids nowadays. If your introduction to games is being thrown a tablet or phone, you're going to be functionally retarded. Especially since these games basically don't have any challenge to them.

Nigga I played Ninja Gaiden when I was 10. Mates and I used to take turns seeing if we could beat the first boss, shit was great. As I grew up I got better at the game and actually progressed through, eventually beating it. Don't worry about whether it'll be too difficult, as long as the base gameplay is good, you don't give him other trash that's easy, you'll be fine.

so one of my younger nephews (10 years old in a few months) was in my house because his father asked me to bring him to catechism class. In the meanwhile, he asked me to play some vidya so I obliged. Tried retro games (Donkey Kong Country 2, Genesis Aladdin), he was dying all the time, didn't know which path to take even though it was quite obvious, he got disheartened pretty quick and went onto watch some cartoons on the TV. He spends his free-time watching youtube letsplayers so of course he couldn't deal with facing difficulty (and yet those 2 games are easy as fuck). This generation is beyond saving, hope you're not deluded enough to expect them to pay for your retirement

I don't plan on ever getting married or having kids but I'd definitely get a kid either Sonic Mania or Mario Odyssey.
Botw, especially at the beginning, expects way too much presumptions about how the game works in terms of physics and mechanics and the combat is way too hard without any upgrades, it honestly surprises me Nintendo allowed the director to go that route since Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were polar opposites, I completed those games easily before I turned 15

da78d7 No.14028539

I only played Anno 1503, and it's been years since I last played SimCity 4, but I guess if you play on a map, with no rivals and have most resources on one big island, then yeah it is easier than SimCity 4, but if you fuck up your trade routes, or your rivals duck up your trade routes, then the whole city and economy will collapse and you will end up in debt, unlike with SimCity 4, where all you had to do was do some missions for the evil guy if you end up in debt. Plus in SC4, you have all those advisers that tell you, what the citizens need and want.

I've only played 1404, and it was so braindead easy with zero challenge that it felt like the game was only maybe 25% finished being developed before they released it. It's not even fun as a city builder.
SimCity 4 on the other hand was hard as balls, and it was fucking impossible to not go bankrupt, so I don't know what you're talking about.

They were mechanically simpler but much less forgiving. If your family member has the co-ordination to handle navigating a 3D space, then he'll be fine.
