Anyways I'll repost here.

They are hard for the same reason one would consider Dark Souls 2 "hard". They throw a bunch of tough enemies at you and inflate their stats immensely and give them incredibly powerful abilities on top of this.This wouldn't be such a bad thing if the map design was actually sound. Instead everyone just pairs up with Frederick/Avatar and stands on a fort or creates a wall or choke or what have you until you win the game. Grinding is also strongly encouraged as well which makes it a special form of cancer. Basically it fucking sucks and its "hard" in the least fun way possible.

Now Fire Emblem 7, that's a Fire Emblem game that did harder difficulties correctly.

Depends, Awakening's lunatic was just save scumming until you could grind because everything fucking one shots your units.

Conquest Lunatic was genuinely good from what I hear, but I'm not putting up with the flyer spam that it likes to throw at you half the time.

I say this as a HHM/fe6 hard vet, any of the lunatic modes on the 'open world' campaigns (awakening, birthright, revelations) are fucking shit. Same as a regular playthrough but you have to grind like a motherfucker (or exploit DLC, which is more-or-less encouraged) because everything oneshots you in the first few chapters.

It's harder, sure, but at the expense of actual fire emblem mechanics. For one thing, because of how pair-up bonuses work, it's much smarter to grind up a handful (2-4) of godlike super-units and let them steamroll everything. Kills the whole 'army building' thing. Like >>13953970 said it's the same basic game just everything has inflated stats and bullshit skills, and you can't out-strategise it- you just have to grind.

Can't speak for CQ lunatic, but it's better, although a bunch of the chapters you more-or-less have to cheese with flier rescues and movement refreshers, or recruiting specific enemy units with certain skill setups

It's a toss up between 4, 5 and 6.

I like 4 for it's story and how well it integrates said story and gameplay, and 5 for similar reasons while also giving you a ton of ways to break it in half.

6 is probably the one I have the hardest time explaining. It's got my favorite cast out of most of the games, it has hilariously bad ones like Wendy, and surprisingly deep ones like everyone from Ilia.

The game itself is pretty fun save for the filler in the beginning, but certain chapters have this distinct feel that only this game and 5 give me. Things like storming Ostia, rushing across Misul, and besieging Balgur, all really stuck out to me. I'd say 4 gives me a similar feeling, but that isn't really the same because of how chapters are in that game.
