Tfw Ultra Sun/Moon is across the board better games than S/M which are clearly paid betas
I'm running a UM nuzlocke and in the first few hours everything was better from the start. My Rowlett shows up more in cutscenes and does stuff, i find pokemon like Buneary who has a great fightan mega form on route 1 instead of yungoose and mexican ratatas and everything is more balanced and less of a cakewalk you dont even need to look at the screen to play.
I would go so far as to say they make the base sun and moon releases as redundant as heart gold and soul silver does for their GBC originals.
So yeah the 'S/M wasn't a rushed out test' was totally bunk.

My favoutite was shafted as early in gen 2 by getting the short end of the special stat being split, especially combared to its version exclusive counterpart who got a massive stat total for no real reason. It was painfully mediocre for gen 3-4 but got a really good ability in gen 5 that was strong enough to have an impact on the meta but didn't have the stats, typing or movepool to pull it off so I got to watch it job to a frog with autism until in gen 6 they dialed it back by nerfing the ability hard and going full retard with megas and power creep. Then gen 7 there's a new alternate form that looks amazing but is also ice, the single worst type in the game. The fact that this form is actually good is nothing short of a miracle, but next gen gamefreak will give the one unique niche it has to a bunch of other random shit guaranteed.
Is it better to have brief moments "maybe it's actually good now" only to get shoved back into the depths of PU, or to just stay there?

Power Gem is a good move but Gengar gets Focus Blast, which is a much better move. There is no Pokemon in the game that resists both Shadow Ball and Focus Blast. Not a single one.
The main thing Mismagius has over Gengar is Nasty Plot, but it's too weak and frail to make use of it.

The difference between Power Gem and Focus Blast is that Power Gem has a 100% chance to deal damage but will rarely deal more damage than Shadow Ball (or even Hidden Power Fighting since your main targets are Normal types and Dark types), whereas Focus Blast has a 70% chance to outright kill most of the Pokemon that would be threatening you.

Well I'm putting my own Pokemon fangame together and these are the core concepts I'm aiming at:

This plays into the next point but I also want to say that I think these three things are nice conceptually but don't work from a gameplay perspective. I would rather have every Pokemon be as useful as another instead of running into shit like Brave Alakazam. It also disincentivizes switching your team around because by the time you can catch a Pokemon to replace your early route mons, they'll have additional stats from EVs so there would be little to no reason to switch them out.

Trainer battles are maybe half as common but twice as challenging as they would be in traditional games. Instead of a trainer facing you with a level 10 beedrill, they might have three or four level 10 bugs with a level 12 beedrill as their ace. If you find yourself hitting a wall you can't break past, consider going to an earlier route and stocking up on a few extra flying types, or maybe see if there's a small sidequest that will net you a fast psychic type to handle the beedrill. Speaking of sidequests…
>Sidequests and events
Instead of just walking from one place to another and doing everything the game tells you to do, there are a number of smaller events and quests that can net you rewards ranging from (useful) battle items or rare Pokemon. Always optional but they'll usually provide some good benefit if you take the time to check them out.
Mostly inspired by Pokemon Adventures: Red (romhack) and Pokemon Reborn (fangame) but I swear to god I'm only inspired by the gameplay of the latter and none of the godawful writing.

It's just to streamline the Pokemon catching process a bit. Instead of catching three or four different Abras hoping for a Timid nature, or going through some process of finding a Timid mon with Synchronize or doing some Timid Everstone breeding bullshit, you can just catch an Abra and it'll be as good as any other Abra.

The fact is there is nothing wrong with the core Pokemon battle system as it stands. The turn based, pick out of 4 moves, system is very robust and simple. EVs are there to min-max and to customize Pokemon so they can do multiple roles instead of being sweepers with a boosting move/STAB attack/STAB attack 2/and coverage move all the time. Some natures need to be added to account for HP, because at the time in Gen 3 adjusting the HP stat was rather tricky, to the point you could glitch the game if you fed your Pokemon that one EV reducing berry and made your HP EVs go below 0. That doesn't seem to be an issue anymore as the glitch no longer works and we actually have Pokemon like Zygarde who actually change their base HP stats in battle, so changing HP stats via natures wouldn't be that much of an issue anymore.

The problem with pokemon relying solely on their base stats is that it removes their ability to be decent at more than one thing. EVs, IVs and Natures exist so that you can customize your pokemon to better handle situations, and removing that is removing some of the core depth of the gameplay.
Here's a minor example. Take Alakazam. He has 135 base Sp.Attack and 120 base Speed. If you decent to gun for speed with, say, a speed boosting nature and 252 sp.atk/speed, you will outspeed other 120 base speed pokemon who didn't do that, including other Alakazams obviously, and still hit pretty hard. However, if you go for a special attack boosting nature instead, you gain the ability to more reliably kill off certain threat pokemon at the expense of speed. It's your complete choice with how what you need your Alakazam to do and how it fits into your team. Some will need the extra speed, some will need the extra Sp. Atk, and this is just the most basic example I can think of right now. It's customization like that, that draws some people to pokemon's gameplay, and removing that will make a lot of pokemon really, really shitty.
That's why your idea sucks.

I had fun playing pokemon x this past week.
Was the first pokemon game i've actually bought since fire red back when i was a kid.
Team flare was retarded, Lysandre had real motivation and felt like a good character. They didn't really feel like they belonged together at all, flare was just a generic gimmick group while Lysandre was more giovanni-ish.
Serena was a decent rival, though i felt more like i was her rival than she was mine. I've heard that "rivals" in the other games are more like fatboy and egghead, which is shitty.
I felt bad for her because she got continually more and more frustrated every time she lost to me.
Fatboy and egghead i actually liked as characters, made the world feel a little more alive, like they were going on their own adventures and had different motivations than simply being the best there ever was.
TMs not being single use was neat, but they were very expensive to buy when you actually could and most of them i just got from talking to random people.
There was a lot of tacked-on online shit that i never even touched.
The nintendogs pokemon-amie thing would have been much better if there were more to it, but i did like the concept.
The whole love-buff shit was neato, actually boosting your pokemon's abilities significantly based on how much it loves you made it feel worth it to put the time in.
The amount of time it took per pokemon felt about right, it took a good while, but not forever to get them up to full affection, assuming you're good enough at head-it's unlimited mode. Less than an hour, i think.
I don't think i'll buy another pokemon game again for many many years, not until it changes significantly again, because it really is a scam just in general. Release basically the same game over and over again, multiple versions at full price each time and all. X was good though, as far as i'm concerned.

Answer me this, /v/: Does US/UM improve item availability for things like evolution stones? I remember how annoyed I was to learn that there was only one dawn stone in the game in the postgame only, and you could only get extras and other rare stones by random chance on a goddamn timer from Isle Aphun.
I heard there are also move tutors, but the move reminder in S/M didn't show up until you were right outside the doors to the league, and even Oriocorio's ghost form was postgame only. I was pissed.

Gamefreak purposely thinned out all other post-game features so that they can force gamers to spend their time breeding, leveling up, battle and lose to Battle Tree/Royale hacked trainers and then start the cycle all over again. Not to mention that we were forced to cultivate those fucking beans in isolated archipelago or wait AT LEAST 12 hours of precious time slaving your useless pokemons to dug evolutionary fucking stones and bottle fucking caps. At least in other pokemon games before Gen 6, they provide us with new areas to explore, new people to meet and battle, new pokemon to be captured, new missions to be completed, etc. The last time I spent a few month playing post-game Pokemon was when I played BW2
