I've never played Tactics Ogre. As someone who absolutely despised Ogre Battle's mechanics, is there a chance I'd like Tactics Ogre instead? I like most other "tactics" games I've played (older Fire Emblems, the Final Fantasy Tactics series, Advanced Warfare, etc.)

Yup, but the PSP and PSX versions play differently from each other. The PSP vversion is modeled after FFT while adopting the faction system that was present in Ogre Battle instead of decision trees like the PSX version.

I clocked nearly 150 hours in that game I think. Enjoy the ride. One of the achievements in game is to not use the turn reset function but it's so useful to just rewind and change actions. I didn't have the autism to recruit everybody but I was able to get the true end. It may be grindy and RNG based but it's still a nice story. My MC became a Ninja Lord.
