They picked the studio that is going to advertise the shit out of it and the end product will end up mediocre at best. In Nintendo terms, the safest bet you could possibly make. Get ready to see tons of trailers and loose tie-ins way before the movie comes out. Would have preferred the studio that did Angry Birds movie with its anti-immigration message but that is owned by Sony.
A good studio would have been Laika, who did Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings. Mario might actually look good in stop motion.

I unironically prefer nip music, even with cringy English lyrics, to most of the shit that is in Hollywood movies and on the radio. I have pretty wide musical taste though compared to everyone I know and can tolerate or enjoy almost anything as long as it's not nigger music, jewess music, or about half of country songs.
The Japanese are pretty good at making normal music too, I've got to give them that. I like listening to their classical stuff in OSTs.
