The Zelda and Metroid series.

I was a sega kid back then, i don't regret that, as i have fond memories of playing sega games on the mega drive, but i still feel like i missed a lot during those times.

I can still appreciate old games but playing those games now instead of when they came out it's just not the same.

I know exactly what you mean. I played the first 2 Castlevanias but I completely missed out on Castlevania 3. The Super Nintendo and Super Castlevania 4 had come out by time and I wasn't interested in the previous generation at the time.
