I only like the rooty shooty and hitting a target tbh. I have nothing against hunting for meat and I have family who made their living as hunting guides etc. But gutting and cleaning carcass is meh, it's a skill sure but it's a chore to me.

A few weeks ago there was an unofficial game night on Deer Hunter 2005, it was very boring but gave me a new desire. Later on I decided to torrent theHunter: Call of the Wild and it was a nice modern day hunting sim, save for the shop system locking you out of most things with a gun xp grind.

Can anyone tell me about the Cabela series?

Yeah, if you shell out thousands for a license, a gun and then network so that you can join a team and then go out during the hunting-season where you're only allowed to kill 20 maximum in that area and all you really will be doing as a newbie is sit on stool for 9 hours waiting for something to happen until they pick you up.

The Cabela Series has one game that is worth playing (IMO). That is Cabela's Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts 2014.

It's pretty much the prototype for TheHunter: COTW. It's alright.

Just like other hunting games you can choose your own hunting experience. You either sit in a stand and spam the lure; or you sneak around, try to avoid the wind crawling on your belly to get a good shot. Which can be rather satisfying.

There's also a bunch of gay aides which you can't turn off. And turning off the annoying commentary during hunts also turns of the voices in the cutscenes.
