This shit is why I stopped playing DRK after getting it all the way to 70. Every third or fourth button I was pushing was Dark Arts, and it was starting to cramp my index finger.
Well, there's that and the buff to Steel Cyclone. WAR is more or less immortal now in single pulls for dungeons, and has huge self-healing for chain pulls.
I even solo-fought the last boss in the 4.1 dungeon after the DPS and healer I'd queued with died. They wanted to see me do it and it took around ten minutes, but that last boss is a total pushover that doesn't deal nearly enough damage to WAR to push through their self-healing.

Boosts are bad if the leveling content is good. A 60 boost in vanilla WoW would be retarded because the open world leveling experience is more enjoyable than the actual raid content. A boost in Legion is the only answer to the problem that is going through 100 levels of fetch quests or grinding decade old dungeons with no mechanics.
I don't view Legion or FFXIV as MMO's at all. Neither of these games have actual emphasis on server based community interaction. If your base for what makes a productive social MMO is everquest/vanilla WoW, then both FFXIV and legion are a completely different genre of game all together.
There is no reason to have all of the worst aspects of an MMO in a game that is essentially straight up just not an MMORPG. You get all of the negatives but none of the positives.
I'm saying this as someone who's only interested in vanilla WoW and has only been playing vanilla WoW private servers for the last few years. As such you are looking to spend as much time as possible in Deliverance (DPS Stance) even when it's your turn to be the main tank. Aggro shouldn't be an issue because of shirk/shadewalker, plus if DPS aren't shit they will be using enmity reducing moves. On top of this big hits from bosses basically always happen at the same time during a fight. You can easily predict when they're coming and switch to Defiance if necessary, though I believe a cooldown or two plus healer mitigation are normally enough.

They somehow managed to casualize an already casual system even more. 3.0 was a big mess and 4.0 fixed a problem that was never a problem in 2.0 and that fix has basically made crafting even less relevant. And let's not forget the massive fuck up for that 170 or 180 gear that NO ONE ever made in 3.0 because of how retarded the mats were to get from a whole slew of classes. The dev team has lost their way and needs to be replaced so we can enjoy some freedom in the game before the new devs become hacks as well.

MMO minion, they have auto script for dungeon run too but dont use it since it pretty obvious you're using a bot, but for gathering, nobody will notice it. That doesn't mean you can run it on auto and then leave it, you need to monitor it because theres a bunch of variable like enemies and FATE spawn that will messed it up.

It's a story-heavy game. If you want to rush to end-game to do stuff, then you'll need to buy a jump potion two actually, one for story one for a character job but wtf is the point of skipping story in a story-focused game? Taking your time, enjoying things as they come, and trying out all the classes/jobs is the best way to enjoy this game.
You also only need one character. "Alt" classes/jobs can be done all on one character, so the only reason for an alt would be on another server or to access more market board space beyond what a single character can provide rare, but hyperjew market types sometimes shell out more shekels to SE so they can more easily dominate the market with more selling space.
Classes vs. jobs. Everyone starts as a combat "class." Two potential tanks (Marauder, Gladiator, aka MRD and GLD), one healer (Conjurer aka CNJ) or five DPS (Archer, Pugilist, Arcanist, Thaumature and Lancer, aka ARC, PGL, ACN, THM and LNC). These classes, when you hit 30, can take up a quest that unlocks a specific job that basically takes what the class does and does it better. I.e. MRD becomes a Warrior (WAR), GLD becomes a Paladin (PLD), CNJ becomes a White Mage (WHM). These are modeled after classic FF jobs, and include other standalone jobs like Dark Knight (DRK) Astrologian (AST) and Samurai (SAM). Each class and job has it's own questline that helps to flesh out and expand on the world at large. For example, the WAR questline involves taming the "inner beast" that resides at the core of the warrior battle style, and eventually becomes a humorous love story filled with all kinds of memeable moments first pic related of hilarity.
Contrasted to this, the DRK questline tends to focus on the personal affects and cost towards your character, while the WHM questline focuses on utilizing your powers to heal and purify the land and it's people, as well as maintaining the magical balance of the world.
In short, there's a shitton of stuff to do, cutscenes everywhere, loads of lore and background to absorb, vistas to marvel at, and wannabe gods to fight. But it takes effort to see and enjoy all that. If you're looking to start playing and be at the end-game within two weeks, you're gonna have a bad time. While it's technically possible if you skip all cutscenes, it'll require more than just casual daily play. I imagine if you watch cutscenes and don't follow any leveling guides or anything i.e. you just follow the game flow naturally and play what and how you enjoy in the moment you're probably looking at at least a month of 3-4 hours a day play to get to 60, then another 3 weeks to finish off the level 60 content and get to the current level cap of 70.

It's a bit shallow in the lower levels, unfortunately, due to it's rocky start, but the further along you get, the better it becomes. I like to think of the turning point as level 35 or so, when you beat titan, cause that's when it starts to get fairly decent. The good shit hits when you get to 50, and you meet this motherfucker in first pic. Hildi-fucking-brand, investigator extraordinaire. If ever there was a reason to beat the story up to 50, it is him. Exclusive clothing, fates, emotes, animations, and the best writing in the entire game is all attributed to him, and he's a sidequest! but his family does show up in the MSQ sometimes.
This game's as fun as you make it. A lot of it's solo work, with the real multiplayer being dungeons and trials, but you can certainly hang out with friends and such and have a good time that way. Some of the best nights I've had on here are hanging out at my local club/lewdzone no, i'm not on balamung, or just running casual dungeons with randos via the roulette. Speaking of, however, the roulette is an important part of levelling. Once you complete a certain amount of duties and trials, you'll unlock a roulette that can be accessed. You can use it anytime, but the first time you use it per day, you'll earn a nice juicy XP and money bonus that scales with your level.It selects a dungeon at random and puts you in it, so it's a nice way to spice things up while also levelling quickly. I recommend it.
You'll enjoy yourself a bit more if you try to immerse yourself, or even roleplay a little bit. If you attach yourself to your fantasy self, it feels a lot more satisfying getting a new piece of attire or completing a duty. I like to get all dark and broody when I play dark knight, cause it just feels more fun to play when you feel as dark as your character looks. Basically, just. Let loose. Don't worry too hard about things, since a lot of it becomes natural after a time. Meta's not that important unless you're raiding hardcore, and by that point, you may have gotten a feel for it already. I'm just gonna plug hyperion here, since I like it and it's a good server, and if you do wind up coming here, I'll certainly hang out with you. As a mentor, if I party with you (you'll have a green leaf above your head to denote you being new), you'll gain a passive XP bonus. You can also gain a headband that gives you additional bonus XP if you refer a friend or get a referral code (i'm sure anyone in here can do it, it also gives you some bonus stuff and an emote), and also, eating food gives even more XP.
In short, keep with it, it gets way better over time, find a buddy and have a good ol' time getting into it, and don't let people get you down.Despite all the complaints leveled here in this thread, it's way more solid than any MMO I've played, and I think you'll enjoy it greatly. let me know if you do get into hyperion. We can hang out.

No, no "dual class" but healers have solid dps options on their own. Soloing is a non-issue, with all 3 healers getting some kind of powerful (but expensive) aoe eventually. AST get's an aoe that requires a target to hit with, WHM get's a PBAOE+stun that can be spammed (DR on the stuns until enemies are immune after the 4th one tho) and SCH (Scholar) gets the ability to take their dots and spread them to nearby enemies. On top of that, each job has access to a dps boosting skill called Cleric Stance that serves as a minor dps cooldown, and all three jobs have other job-unique skills that help with both soloing and group content.
General healer playstyle tends to be more aggressive, with the idea being that if you have mana and no one is dying, then you may as well do some dps. Some abilities Assize for WHM, Earthly Star for AST function as both healing and dps abilities as well. Once you get past 40 or so, healing becomes much more engaged. Each class has at least one dot to manage SCH has 3 I think, but does less straight up "nuke" type damage than AST and WHM and the game then becomes dealing with mechanics and keeping everyone topped off while trying to squeeze out as much damage in your free time as possible without using too much mana and getting caught with your pants down.

I loved ARR and HW, got every class up to cap in both, raided, pvp'ed, played the crafting market and had a great time.
Now i'm logging in, checking my retainers and i keep going 'maybe ill get some tomes' or 'maybe ill get a second combat class to the new cap' and i play for like an hour max and log off for the week.

But it gets better. Merlwyb frequently invokes fascist thinking and principles. Even the faction catch phrase "till sea swallows all" is clearly inspired by the same sort of thinking as that adopted by fascists, namely that life is a constant struggle to stay alive/afloat. She also frequently compares the nation to a ship at sea which again is so fascist its hilarious, as fascists typically regard the state/nation as one large army focused on its own survival in which everyone is expected to do their part and is dependent on the rest to do theirs.
One particular line she uses fairly early on with her original and vastly superior english voice actor: "Mark ye well: a crew without unity is no crew at all -tis but a mass of drowned men" in reference to the citizens of Limsa Lominsa and recent discord among them.
Oh and the Yellowjackets have oft been cited as a reference to the blackshirts and other similar groups.

Individual fleet admirals and even captains can tell the Grand Admiral to go fist herself and ignore her orders. Though she and the chief quartermaster seem to control provision of vessels giving the fleets good reason to stay on her good side.
Overall the authority and power of the Grand Admiral seems highly fluid and inconsistent from one moment to the next.
She for definite controls the Maelstrom and Yellowjackets outright. But the majority of Limsa Lominsa's naval power is outside her immediate authority.
It doesn't help that Merlwyb has essentially rewritten a lot of the rules regarding her post and essentially remade her position into something it wasn't prior to her becoming the chief power in Limsa Lominsa.
Though this willingness to induce rapid change when needed is also indicative of a fascist mindset. As typically fascists are of a revolutionary mindset and have little difficulty grappling with the idea of sudden change or complete overturns of the status quo. So long as it serves a useful purpose.
Fun aside: It was a previous admiral in a similar overall position to Merlwyb that create Eorzeas current standard system of weights and measurements after one individual caused a lot of trouble arguing over the old thumb based system. The admiral in question grabbed him, beat the shit out of him, cut off his thumb and then had it cast in iron. At which point they declared that thumb was now the standard from which all measurements would be derived.

Well this is generally more about day to day affairs.
But yes Limsa Lominsa as a state seems to be quite happy to cast aside shit like paperwork or proper process when its necessary. Cementing their fascist credentials further.
We even see the city states quartermaster (essentially their chief financial official. Think minister of finance rolled in with head of the national bank) displaying a willingness to disregard procedure and rules when the benefits of doing so are sufficient.
But then all this makes sense when you consider their nautical background. To them the nation is a ship at sea. Ships rules and procedures don't exist for the sake of it but for very specific and required purposes, the hazardous environment meaning you can't afford a lot of the posturing and frippery that is feasible on land.

you're not really going to crack much higher than that since whm is the best active healer in game currently, so the other two healers tend to be able to dps more when a whm is present.
but having said that, the best thing you can do is really learn the pattern of a fight. you'll figure out the times when incoming damage is lower and you can squeeze in more stones before going back to healing, either directly or via some kind of cooldown. all in all, it's just individual fight practice more than anything else. some spell speed doesn't hurt either.

don't forget aero 2 uptime. don't bother with medica 2 uptime. like any other job though you'll want to know when mechanics that pertain to your job happen and in your case that would be tank busters and raidwide aoe. try to have usages of your free healing spells such as tetragrammaton, benediction, asylum, etc planned out so you get the most uses out of them without overhealing, since it lets you keep dpsing. also, don't forget about divine benison and plenary indulgence.
this also depends on your cohealer, but learn to trust them more. if you see an earthly star on the ground, don't worry about healing the next big aoe aside from maybe a single medica.

yeah, easily, no argument there. pld's advantage is being able to cycle between two "hot" dps rotations, one of which is ranged. that makes positioning in some situations easier (i.e. tentacles in O2s) but generally won't make up for what war brings.

as far as cooldowns go yeah, but in terms of passive mitigation pld wins thanks to block working on fucking everything. Shadow Wall and Sentinel need a CD buff to bring them in line with Veng imo.

pld still wins thanks to cover/intervention and the ability to heal others, but the Shake It Off change really helped war out a lot. being able to press two buttons and toss out a 12% max hp shield every 90s (RI +SiO) is fucking sweet. doubly so since RI is nearly useless in end-game situations due to most attacks being magical (or in the case of O3s having forced crits that pierce parry if Awareness isn't up). Divine Veil is kinda shit in comparison, since it needs an outside heal to proc and can't be stacked as high as SiO can. it's not hard to throw Inner Beast+RI onto the tail end of Veng or ToB and get a 20% max hp raid-wide shield every 90s while keeping most of the power of the longer defensive CD intact.
so overall i'd say pld ~= war in terms of mt capability, with pld edging war out in general utility while war edges pld out in dmg. but drk is well and truly borked. drk needs help badly.

I didn't claim war was best utility. all they got is shake it off and slashing debuff but that doesn't really count because ninja is omnipresent. as for divine veil, I think it's about equal with shake it off if only due to the shorter cooldown which lets it be up for every almaghest and other stuff that happens in 2 minute intervals
I saw war is best MT mostly because they can pull without losing dps since swapping into deliverance doesnt cost anything so a tomahawk+equilibrium then straight into deliverance is good enough with a ninja in the party. that and holmgang being on a 3 minute cooldown makes cheesing tank busters piss easy. in halicarnassus they can awareness the first/third/fifth etc and holmgang the 2nd, 4th, 6th. also insanely good for exdeath and neo's dualcast thunder 3

NIN main here. Your DPS is a little bit low compared to others at any same level of performance (200~300 lower), but you boost theirs by a lot so yeah. Very useful. If going to the top tier, a NIN is mandatory.

don't mislead people. nin's personal dps is in the lower half of the dps jobs, but at the 75th percentile level which is where i expect you fags to be at a minimum, nin is only like 9-10% lower dps than the top personal dps jobs.

It's more that the devs don't playtest much. They work out averages mathematically and build the game based on those averages.
What they found was that for ninja this didn't work very well.
Remember with machinist they initially had the opposite problem where the players weren't achieving the sort of numbers they had worked out as the average.

my static gets our weeklies (1-4s) done in <2 hours usually and that's with fuckups. it's definitely doable but you're going to have to put in a lot more work initially to get good enough logs for a group like that to take you.

I think with ninja the main issue is that players are a lot more competent in regards to ninjitsu mudras than SE anticipated they would be. I suspect their algorithms failure rate is a lot higher than that among experienced ninja players.
Back when I mained ninja I rarely fucked up a mudra. Then theres the unexpected doton synergy.
For machinist the problem is more down to timing. Machinist is extremely timing sensitive, it's easy to fuck it all up especially on endgame content which can be very timing dependent for a class like machinist. So the mathematically derived average wasn't matching up to real world experiences when enemy timing and the unpredictability of battles got taken into account.
Though with machinist their initial was "git gud"

Guys, how does savage compare to mythic in Wow in terms of difficulty? As far as I can tell, classes in both games are equally pruned so the games are similar in that regard, but I have a hard time determining which game has harder content. Wow has more, that's for sure.

As far as Wow meta is concerned, it seems that most braindead jobs do most dps while classes like feral druid and ww monk sit in the lower middle. I don't know much about gearing, but in ff14 it's very easy and straightforward, I'd actually like more hoops to jump through that doesn't just come down to farming normal raids and waiting until you get enough tomestones.
