Hey me too Anon. I think my favorite Modern game might be Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, because it's just presented so well and it just feels like this love letter to itself. It feels like a lot of care went into that game, not like, care as in paying attention to bugs, but like care as in it just has a lot of little details that make me really happy. I like the cheesy plotline that's so gritty and anime that it's laughable, and I love how every stage theme is made to fit the characters and their personalities. The Chao Garden ties the whole thing together along with the vast amount of emblems to get and the ranking system, and I think it's honestly really satisfying to play because of that. It has that older Sonic Team touch to its atmosphere, too.

For the Classic games I'm not really sure. All of the four classic games (1, 2, 3K, CD) have their strong points but they also all have a few flaws that kind of bug me. I think CD might be my favorite, but it's so different that it's kind of hard to compare them to the other 3. Mania is still really great though. I'm looking forward to Forces; I don't expect it to be amazing but I expect it to be a fun time. Sonic has gotten better ever since Colors or so, and I think the series really peaked and made people start to get interested again with Generations, but they really need to get some new staff who know how to work this shit. What they need is a good staff who can make consistently good and solid games that will be appreciated; if they're flawed it's only going to cause a lot of people to rip the game to shit like people always have been doing, and I think that's a bit of a problem as it only continues to hurt the image the franchise has. I think maybe getting Yuji Naka back in charge would be best, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

Seriously they just need to start making games that don't have the flaws that we've usually been getting in most releases; even the amazing Sonic games still have a couple or a few at least somewhat glaring flaws that can drive the game to be controversial. Sonic is really hard to get right because with the Classic formula, you need to pay a lot of attention to level design to make things work out. I don't mind rehashing stages, in fact I'd love to see some come back and be brought to life in a modern game, but they really should've switched it up and AT LEAST picked Emerald Hill and Marble Zone if they wanted to do something different. It kind of feels like they're scared to do anything too new because they want to rely on nostalgia to make people happy, but they don't know how to rely on nostalgia properly in order to weave it into the game realistically and not overblowing it and cashing in on the same thing over and over again. Sonic Team just really needs some reworking or something; I still enjoy the recent games, I liked Lost World despite the huge flaws in its level design, and I liked Generations despite the flaws with the physics, but if SEGA wants people to take the franchise seriously again, they're going to have to put some work into really designing a proper successor. It can't be too hard to get people together and point out the best parts of a Sonic game and put them all together to make a game that captures the magic of the series, right? I prefer a story that's more like Adventure 1 and 2 or the Genesis/Advance games, where it's either simple enough to get into with some cool things to get interested in, or just downright like some kind of dumb action movie like the Adventure games were like. I'm not a huge fan of the more Saturday morning cartoon writing that Lost World had, nor am I too much of a fan of the more dramatic and flashy style that Unleashed and 06 had, but I'm still fine with either of those.

But shit tl;dr they need to get their shit together and seriously think things through with their next game so they can attempt to escape the stigma they've set up for the franchise.
