What's up with all the early access cancer on Steam?

This game Rust – while enjoying positive reviews – has been in early access for almost FOUR YEARS. What the fuck? I want to try it out, but it would never feel like buying a complete game.

While on the topic, DAYZ has been in early access for nearly the exact amount of time and the reviews show player dissatisfaction. It's almost as if the devs abandoned it like it were Notepad2.exe. Steam should chuck the early access imo.

>What's up with

you can get paid for making a game, or you can get paid for promising to make a game.

one of those things is easier to do.

it's not rocket science, anon.

Why finish something when you can milk while it's unfinished? Retarded, but I guess that's an "acceptable" business practice these days.

If I was steam I'd put a 2 year cap on early access. If you go over the time limit the game is taken down and everyone can get an automatic refund no matter the play time.

It'll stop being acceptable when it stops being profitable. People need to wake the fuck up. If I had more motivation I'd be selling 25% of a game for full price and handing out fake promises like candy to attract more idiots. Can you really blame them for taking advantage of people with zero consequences, because the customers were retarded enough to agree bullshit unenforceable terms?

The worst examples of early access really are just an example of how horrendously bad the multiplayer open world survival/crafting genre is.

Why not split the first marshmallow in half. It's not like it affects taste.

I wouldn't wait fifteen minutes for a single fucking marshmallow

There's difference.

Early access games are like delivering a burned marshmallow but with cream plastered on it but because of the cream it is cut in half. That half is also divided into smaller pieces. Now every 5 minutes you'll get a miniscule piece of marshmallow until you have your whole marshmallow back. Now after 6 hours you have your whole marshmallow back.

What is the difference between being and not being in early access?

It falls apart once you consider developers ones waiting.

They have option to eat marshmallow now or wait and still get same marshmallow. Why stay and finish the game once you have been already paid for your job?

Most of game sales is once it releases or if it got popular after release. In terms of Towns it meant they got all the money once the game got viral. Why continue development when you won't get paid for it?

In multiplayer games there is 0 difference. They will be in constant development for new features. Same for MMOs and sandboxes like Minecraft, Cities Skylines.

In regular singleplayer games there is also no difference because nearly nobody makes finished games nowadays.
