if the dvd drive doesnt work there isnt anything you can do besides buying a new one which will cost about $40 because you cant just put in an old one from a pc.

If its already softmodded you can just transfer games onto via ftp

The software might be different, but the steps are exactly the same

>get Xbox's IP address

>put that into the IP address field on your FTP program

>username and pass (I think it's xbox in both by default)

I use Filezilla because I'm a casual, and having all the fields in the main window is really handy.

I don't even bother with using FlashFXP or something to load shit onto my Xbox. I used embed related as a guide, and just have the Xbox drive sort-of mapped as a network drive in Windows. Anyway, you set the Xbox's IP address in the network configuration of the Xbox menus. You'll have to hunt through the frontend on the system you're using to see what it all may be set to, and perhaps use this video as a guide for the configuration/connection part.

Also, no matter what you do

BACKUP YOUR EEPROM ONTO YOUR COMPUTER

No small amount of woe will come from the hard drive failing without this backup existing. Also ignore the default IP address configuration steps in most guides. If you have an ounce of sense, you've configured your own LAN to be something different for one reason or another.
