Probably not doing very well, wish is quite a shame but entirely the dev's fault.
The game was unique enough to set it aside from other class-based shooters and MOBA's, some interesting mechanics to make it an entirely different game and a very high TTK meant it was mostly about the objectives and fighting for control points, not playing deathmatch.
However they did that shitty thing were you have to unlock characters with a virtual currency and you'll only get 5 otherwise that rotate every week, just like League of Legends.
This meant that, for newer players, most matches you were playing with and against the exact same heroes, very few variations from the very few people that either bought it or managed to grind enough currency to unlock a new hero.
And after a few matches of playing with the same 5 guys, you'll be bored, want to try something else but you can't because you haven't grinded enough. This on top of not being able to pick repeat heroes, meaning you're stuck with what your team leaves you, means you'll get bored very very fast.
It has a "card system" that's just "quests" you can do to get some rewards and more currency, stuff like "use this ability of this character 5 times" or "win 3 games". It's a meta-goal that devs actually think keep people engaged, and they do when it's something very very simple like in HotS, not when you devise an entire section of your main menu to it and even let players buy those cards.
The game would be better with all characters unlocked from the get go and either set a paywall for it or just survive in selling cosmetics. Gating characters behind the paywall while also putting the game out F2P means everyone trying the game to make their mind up is never gonna get a pleasant experience.
It's funny that people keep mocking Overwatch when every single time, that game keeps showing that it did everything right for a game to be successfull. Not F2P, no gated characters, no extra bullshit that affects gameplay and even free cosmetic crates just from playing the game.
