Getting forced to pick/make up a couple because of a time limit really screws this whole thing.

IMO, the deadline's too close for /u/ to make an OC couple, while making an OC couple would be far more ideal for /u/, so rather than being shoehorned into picking something less preferable just to appear in the event, why not just skip this event and plan for the next?

Pick a contingency couple, and try to make an OC before then. If it fails, just go with the contingency and make it in due time.
