I'm getting to the point where I think that I have enough Python experience (2+ years) Webdev experience (4+ years) that I think I can start thinking about quitting my day job to get into freelance work. Programming has been a hobby on the side for a while. Does anyone know any good places to start freelancing? I've heard that Upwork is pretty shitty but I suppose it'll provide decent enough experience.

For people who freelance here, do you get most of your business from marketplaces like Upwork or do you cold call and E-mail people until you drum up a client? Interested to hear some experiences.

You shouldn't use those kinds of platforms, period. They take some ridiculous cut like 25% on top of any taxes that you're already paying. Not to mention you'll be bidding against literal armies of pajeets all trying to be the cheapest possible shitter.

Don't do it anon, freelance work is fucking awful, especially the webdev community. Clients will try to squeeze you for everything you've got as soon as you give them a quote and you'll be competing with starving pajeets that will quote half your price (even if they don't shit out something that meets requirements). You'll be stuck making, debugging, or fixing wordpress plugins for some hipster wannabe entrepreneur selling ethically brewed tea. If you're unhappy with your job, go to another company. DO NOT go freelance.

The only excuse to do freelance is if you absolutely need to set your own hours like if you're a student.

Just don't be a worthless webdev, and don't use the shitty freelance sites. I'm a contractor and it's fucking fine. The hard part is the "job security" where you have to be on the hunt to find more work. The pay is good though.

Freelancing is literal rat running on wheel job. You always need to be up to date and on top of your game. Pajeets are good at their template shit and copypasting job so it aint hard for them. Not to mention that they are willing to work for much MUCH lower prices because their currency is less valued compared to USD. Also not to mention that a lot of them have bots to partially solve the job for them (which is why they all have >1min response times and why automated jobs like SEO and digital marketing are their specialty).

Just find a good paying job from germoney or muricca that is willing to pay for you to work over distance but for that you will need either visa or be in EU and be proven a top code monkey.

>He thinks EU pay is good

EU salary is shit. Work remote for a company in SF.

> Pajeets are good at their template shit and copypasting job so it aint hard for them

The pajeet outsourcing fad died 20 years ago when companies realized they can't speak english and only know how to copy paste.
