Why are we still using Flash Memory as non-volatile storage in CY+3 /tech/?

Is it because the limited lifespan of flash memory is goode for the economy?:^)

What ever happened to all the various forms of NVRAM that were hyped around when memristors were physically implemented for the first time?

What memory doesn't have a limited lifespan?

Define the concept of a limited lifetime.

Everything will eventually crumble.

I assume that OP is referring to planned obsolescence.

Lurk more, newfag. CY was 2015.

>What memory doesn't have a limited lifespan?

>buy single cell NAND 6 years ago

>still working fine

>buy triple level cell NAND last year

>already loosing performance

There's no single cell SSD that can be bought anymore.

Same thing with networking devices like routers, I still have a 15 year old netgear modem/router that works fine and the dlink that I bought 2 years ago is already dying.

I'll just leave this here again https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5454531/

TL;DR:

>way harder to get fucked up by magnetic fields or radiation

>operation in order of ps (=sanic fast, apparently)

>more states than 0/1

>"no stray magnetic fields" (not sure what the implications are but it sounds important)

>non-volatile
