>I'm genuinely all for this, if we stay focused on only ourselves we won't make the progress we need to as a species. Data needs to be shared for everyone and our desire to control it is silly. It should be shared with everyone to help improve the future.
<Societal and psychological manipulation is control no matter how benevolent the motives may be. Next level Psychohistory.
>Evolution always happens bottom-up. We seem to forget this. While we obviously can try to aim evolution, both genetic and memetic, those aims are themselves emergent/bottom-up. It's ok. We will continue to randomly mutate and naturally select the best approaches that support life now and in the long term future, even if we aren't consciously aware of these two forces acting on us.
<Can't wait till the internet is decentralized and Google dies
>The Matrix under construction.
<My biggest fear is being forgotten after my time here. Now, I wonder how I'll be remembered and if it's still a good thing
>DATA is the next OIL!
<Seen as this was a internal video and it's clear it was just a concept I don't see the big deal
>Also, it really doesn’t take much to creep these people out. Poor baby.
<Short version: "Google is scary! Let's create more regulatory agencies." Answer: nope. Google can't force me to do anything. The regulators can. And on top of that the regulators would end up ensuring google's/facebook's monopoly over the internet as they would be the only ones big enough to comply with said regulations. The way it is right now, all the power google has is the power you choose to give them. Don't like it? Use alternatives. (enjoy while they still exist... before the regulators come)
>If the data were controlled, processed and distributed on a *decentralized* ledger in which an immutable consensus mechanism could be implemented that enforced a "for the greater good of the many" pragmatic philosophical doctrine, then I could see the validity of entertaining such a Gedankenerfahrung. However, I would neither provide consent, nor forego objection, to allowing such a network to be controlled by a centralized entity; in fact, I would submit that we should violently oppose the very notion of its creation.
