>see h.265 and its licensing clusterfuck

>decide to make a competing royalty-based codec with a simpler licensing scheme

>royalty-based video codec

>in CY+XX

>make the codec modular for the purpose of removing infringing components from the source code at a moment's notice at the request of (((patent holders)))

Unless any patented shit is intentionally limited to the encoder I can't really tell what they meant by this.

 No.913467>>913532

I don't see any point when AV1 has much more resources behind (including legal resources).

 No.913479

I don't get why you faggots complain about fees/licensing when anything worthwhile is underground release anyway/shot on actual film and not digital shit and your shitty anime can't be affected.

Who the fuck cares?

Royalty based codecs are our greatest allies.

xvc is proprietary software

The xvc License Agreement is available at https://xvc.io/license/.

From https://xvc.io/license/:

LICENSE
The xvc licence comes in three flavors: xvc free, xvc pro and xvc unlimited.

The full license agreement can be found here: xvc license r1.0.

The table below summarizes the properties of the three different xvc licenses.

xvc free xvc pro xvc unlimited

An xvc instance is defined as an entity performing operations related to one or more xvc bitstreams. Such operations may include, but is not limited to;
producing/encoding xvc bitstreams, decoding xvc bitstreams, transcoding to/from xvc bitstreams, analyzing xvc bitstreams, validating xvc bitstreams,
distributing xvc bitstreams, transmitting xvc bitstreams, packing/unpacking xvc bitstreams, encrypting xvc bitstreams, fragmenting xvc bitstreams,
mulitplexing xvc bitsreams. The licenses are not limited to the specific implementations of the xvc reference software. However, the licences apply
only to the methods included in the reference software and only when used in the context of performing operations related to one or more xvc bitstreams.

The xvc pro and xvc unlimited licenses requires a signed xvc License Agreement to be sent to Divideon.

.pdf related is the license. This project is clearly non-free, not going to use it unless they relicense to something libre.

(I hope the formatting isn't fucked up, if so I give you my apologies.)

>xvc, an obscure meme codec with no HW/SW support and little widespread publicity has its own paid shills active on an obscure laotian rice farming forum

I'm pretty sure Jewgle made sure to explicitly avoid any patent infringement when designing AV1, they also have considerable legal resources behind it.

Patents are cancer, every invention should be open source
