The news broke about Facebook giving data to a Trump-aligned firm, and liberals went nuts. And then it came to light Obama did the same thing. This affects everyone, regardless of politics. Most importantly though, it affects all those people who ran around going

It's like the trunk of a tree (the roots being various physical/link layer technologies that actually carry the trafic and the branches being network services and application layer protocols).
