So I've been thinking about possibly starting up a business.

And I was wanting to know how hard it would be to make a successful server hosting business in the current market?

 No.890352>>890356 >>890362 >>895396

good luck competing with the million VPS already in the market.

Can you give me 2 cores, 4gm ram, and 200G hd and 1TB transfer for for $6-8/mo? that's the competition.

What's a $3000 used server even have, 24 cores maybe, assuming the rest of the spec's match, that's 12 of the above, that's $96/mo net, now take out how much it's going to cost to stick that in a data center and pay for the bandwidth and power.

 No.890353

for max profit you could be a megajew and run openvz and sell 150 cores on a 24 core server.

Yea that's what I was expecting.

Unless I can afford 20k+ I might as well not even try. And that's assuming I could get people to use my business in the first place.

Welp time to think of other ideas.

hate to shit on your rainbow but you'd probably be better off taking the same investment money and dumping it into buttcoin mining

>not over provisioning

A $6-8/month VPS will not give you dedicated cores.

Delete your thread. Why didn't you ask your dumb question in the dumb question sticky?

 No.890365>>890370

>>890362

not OP but nobody reads the question sticky and it takes months to get bumped off the board at this rate. i think this topic deserves a thread.

>not OP but nobody reads the question sticky

Speak for yourself newfag. People who help in the questions thread don't make low-effort pointless 3 reply threads.

I hate this mentality of. Only the the best of quality thread on MY image board.

Fuck off

 No.890397

it's not 'server hosting' it's Cloud Computing

Ya anon you're right. We should strive to design our threads to incite low quality shitposting. I can't image any place I would rather post than a cesspool full of retards.

History tells us that selling shovels to miners is more profitable.

Broken analogy. Think it over and try again.

I don't see any problem with it.

You buy oldish (very powerful still) servers on auction. You get a stack of dual socket xeon servers with half a terabyte of ram between them for a few hundred bucks. Everything enterprise is VERY cheap when the generation is over. Like 40 Gig ethernetcards being under $20 bucks on ebay.

>>895396

40 gig meaning 40 gigabits per second, not 40 cards
